I was sent this by a rescue group. I wanted to share

I adopted your dog today...
The one you left at the pound,
The one you had for nine years
and no longer wanted around.

I adopted your dog today...
Do you know that he’s lost weight?
Do you know that he’s scared and confused
and has lost all faith?

I adopted your dog today...
He had fleas and a cold,
but don’t you worry none -
You’ve unburdened your load.

I adopted your dog today...
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies or was
there no reason he couldn’t stay?

I adopted your dog today...
He doesn’t play or eat much.
He’s very depressed now
but will learn again to trust.

I adopted your dog today...
And here he will stay.
He’s found his furever home
and a warm bed on which to lay.

I adopted your dog today...
I will give him all that he could need -
Patience, love, security, understanding.
Hopefully he forgets your selfish deed!

Absolutely, wonderful and so very powerful. I wanted to volunteer at a rescue, but I am afraid that I would take so many home, that I would no longer have a home. I am trying to get my mind set right so that I can do it, I love animals so much. How could anyone just leave an animal?

Great poem, it's so sad in these hard economic times that many who love their pets can't keep them. I know there are plenty of people out there that just dump them. But there is a new group now who thru no fault of their own who can no longer care for their pets.

Recently I read a sad story of an elderly couple who had lost everything with the economic down turn and could no longer afford their house, their home helpers ect. and had to give up everything including their beloved dog. Tragic.

Awww, that was really sad, but with good outcome. Sadly, not for everyone.

Sadly,i'm afraid we will see alot more of this in the coming days,w/ the economy & all. I faced a simular situation last week when my husband was laid off.Was afraid I'd have to give up one or more of my animals. It's the pets,or the kids, and the kids win, when it comes to buying food!

I adopted my dog because somebody decided to leave him (and his sisters) on the side of the road... their loss, my gain. Thanks for sharing the poem!

Mine too! Hubby can't stop remarking why anyone would do that to Max as he is such a gentle gentle dog. Why would anyone not want him? Their loss, our gain as well!

Very touching. Thanks for posting that.

I was scheduled to pick up my new family member this afternoon from the local animal shelter. But her puppies were not eating on their own so the shelter wants to keep the mom (my future new family member) one more week to help with the transition. She came into the shelter as a drop off with 6 puppies! The shelter guesses the mom is about 2 years old. Happily, all of the puppies have been scheduled for adoption too.

This new member will join my other adopted dog that I've had for 7 years.
