I know you dog owners will come in here and cry about how I shouldn't be a pet owner. Well I say if you have a microchip placed in your dog. It's you, who shouldn't own a pet.

So are you for microchipping your dog, Yea or Nay?
You did say might, so why worry till it is real. My dog has no chip, the breeder
did when she was real tiny get her a tatoo number on her belly. No other dog ever had this. Anyway this is mostly done when a dog is fixed and out.
Contact the animal people and find out b4 you get upset. animal customs.
frankly with all the dog shows, I doubt it needs to be done, unless you have a dog worth mega money. Then the dog might get dog napped!

Save a dogs life and sell his/her soul. Doesn't seem like a even trade.

One of mine is tattooed too. The thing is, most dogs arent and most shelters don't look for them (esp. in hairy dogs, they're just not visible). Plus a lot of the breeders have their own tattoo codes which mean nothing to a shelter esp. if the dog has moved from one area of the country to another (or even another country which is the case w/ mine). Also, my girl's tattoo has faded over the years so Im glad we got her microchipped.

True story: One of my friends drove to another state on her vacation and took her dog with her. She was staying with friends, and the dog accidentally got out of her friends' yard. The dog obviously got lost very quickly, being a thousand miles from home, but fortunately someone picked her up and took her to a local police station.

My friend's brother, who lived in her hometown, got a call from the chipping registry (Avid) as he was the contact person listed for that chip number. While my friend and her freinds were frantically searching the neighborhood for the dog, her brother called her (from a thousand miles away) on her cell phone and told her where her dog was. They were reunited within 2 hours.

It's relatively cheap technology. Why would you NOT do this for your dog? Both of my dogs are chipped and the procedure itself didn't seem to hurt them at all. It's the size of a small grain of rice.

I'm sorry but you sound a bit paranoid about government...are you sure you want to come to the USA ?
All of my dogs are microchipped, it was easy and SMART. If you ever lose your pet it could save him/her from the "kill shelter" if they know who her mommy is. Maybe you should reconsider being a pet owner. No Vets I know are microchipping humans
And besides it is standard procedure that if you are coming/going to another country with you dog/cat they must be microchipped (for all the reasons stated in previous post) and for proper identification.
