How to use Rescue Remedy
I ordered it thru the mail but it does not mention canine use at all. Are you all sure it is ok to use on dogs? Does it work if you just use it as needed, for the groomer or storms etc? She is 12 lbs, how many drops in the mouth and how far ahead of time?

I have used rescue remedy and alot of the other Bach flower essences in the past. If I know in advance we have a stressful thing like for Jazz a trip to the vet I put 4 drops into her water bowl maybe a day in advance so they are drinking it all day.( They say to use spring water, my dogs drink reverse osmosis water). Then starting about 1/2 hr before we go to the vets I will either put a couple drops in her mouth or on a treat every 15 minutes then right before we go it to see the vet.Yes my vet has noticed the difference as she is alot more relaxed and willing to tolerate his exam. She is a fear aggressive dog so has had issues at the vets.
Right now I am putting rescue remedy and a couple of the others that are supose to help with terminal illness and that giving up hoplessness feeling in their drinking water. I have the book about the use of Bach flower essences so was able to come up with my own custom mix for them.
the dogs and I have used it for years and never had any problems. I will put it in my water bottle that I take to work if I know it will be a very stressful night and sip on it all night and yes it helps.

So, this isnt a one time thing, it has to be used ahead of time and alot of times, not once. Makes me nervous to even think of giving her something. What do you notice when you use it and how long does it take????

My massage therapist friend told me to rub the rescue remedy in my dog's armpits for more immediate absorbtion. He has storm anxiety and I haven't had to use it yet, but will try it in the spring

They do make rescue remedy for pets but it is very hard to find it and it is ok to use the one humans use. The human one has alcohol as a perserative so some pets dislike the taste of it but it is not enough to harm them. The dose for the normal dog is 4 drops, you would drop down to two drops for small animals like hamsters, mice, small birds and increase to 6 drops for the giant breeds of dogs and other large animals. Rescue remedy is non toxic and you can not OD an animal on it. The book says to give it at least 4 times a day for at least 5 days and sometimes as long as 2 weeks or more if it takes that long to balance the animal. It can be put in water, put in the mouth ,or nose where they will lick it off or on a treat , rubbed on certain areas of the body or even used as a spray.
As I said I use it in the water when I feel it is needed and I give it in 15 minute intervals before going to the vet. I see no dramatic change in Jazz except that she is not growling, snarling or snapping at the vet and instead allows him to examine her.The change that occurs is in their emotional state. I did not tell my vet I had started giving it and on one visit He smiled and said " I think Jazz finally likes me" he was all pleased with himself so I let it be for awhile before I told him!
If you ever find an injured animal giving it rescue remedy can prevent it from going into shock while you get it to a vet.
For those dealing with thunderstorn anxiety if Rescue remedy does not work try melatonin as that works well for firework anxiety too.

The original Rescue Remedy for humans is safe for dogs. The reason they created the pet formula is because people were worried about the alcohol content in the original formula, although it's not enough alcohol to hurt an animal. They said some people are just totally against anything with alcohol, and that is why they created it. I spoke with the company about this recently, as I was curious why they would create one just for pets when the original was perfectly safe, and that is what they told me. They said either formula is safe for pets.
What is NOT safe is their new "pastille" Rescue Remedy. That one contains xylitol, which is very poisonous to pets. Their statement about that product regarding pets can be found at http://www.rescueremedy.com/pdf/Resc...-Pastilles.pdf
Rescue Remedy for pets is hard to find in stores, but it can be ordered from the rescueremedy.com site.

Another one that works good for thunderstorms and fireworks is Aspen. I've also used it on a dog who was nervous when traveling.

I'm not sure this stuff works. I've used it for myself several times (cuz I get nervous a lot) and it never did anything.

I've used it on my dog (along with several other homeopathic oils), and I was told to put it inside her ear flaps, on the skin (the ears--not the canal). I can't say whether it worked or not, as there were other changes in the household, but this specific treatment was to help with separation anxiety.
Good luck with your pup!
