Hi, I have a 14yrold.min-pin he does have lyme disease and has always been in great health yesterday he for no reason tucked his tail down tight and his neck was stiffened up and he was limping on his front left leg,he was walking very slow and stagering and shivering and had a very hard time to sit and then lay down only to get back up right away,,I rushed him to the vet 5min.away and while we wated he snapped back to being himself(20min.)so I took him home,,he was fine all day and then this morning he went down and up a long flight of stairs no problem and then he had another eppisode not as bad just the tail tucked neck stiff walking slow and had a hard time putting his head down to the floor to get treat he would not go down the stairs and had to be carryed within 10 min. he was back to normal,,,,I have NO CLUE what is going on,would appreciate some help,,I am going to rush him to vet if it happens again,,thank you
Have you called the vet and described what happened to him? I'd start with that, rather than wait for it to happen again. It's obviously distressing to the dog and while he may appear to be "back to normal" he may have a problem that you aren't seeing. IMO, with his history of Lyme, you might want to take a more active approach.
Seizures would be high on my list of possibilities - get him to a vet ASAP. They don't have to see what's happening to have some ideas. An EEG would likely show if it is a seizure disorder.
What meds is he taking? How long has he been taking them.
Limping on the front leg is one of the first symptoms of lyme disease. It causes a lot of pain and body stiffness. If you have just started antibiotics, it takes 24-48 hours for those symptoms to start to go away. You need to stay on the antibiotics for 3-4 weeks. Two weeks is not long enough in my opinion. If you go off the antibiotics and you see limping, that means the lyme has returned and you need to go back on the antibiotics.
I don't know if that helps or not, but it's important to know because as common as lyme is, it is shocking how many vets completely misdiagnose it or don't prescribe antibiotics for a long enough period of time.
When I lived in an area with a lot of Lyme disease, we'd prescribe antibiotics for at least 6 weeks. I would definitely get him checked out again as soon as you can. From your description, it sounds like your little guy is very painful during these episodes.
Just had another thought. Is there any way you could record these episodes? Can your phone record movies? It might help your vet out tremendously if they can actually see what's happening.
