I don't know if those of you outside of California have heard of the great plan here to help balance the budget they are talking about adding a tax
on to quite a few things and one is animal care meaning vet bills. We are talking a 9-10% tax. Is that insane or what? Health care is already very expensive and I know some vets such as my own try very hard to keep costs down so people can afford their pets, now the governament plans to try to pull this?? I am soooo glad that Dash's major expenses are now behind us as that would have tacked alot on to what his vet bills have been this past year and on to Jazz's surgey to remove her tumor. I just think this is so wrong to do this as vet care can be a life or death thing unlike playing a round of golf which is another thing they plan to tax.

This may hurt the rescues in the state too as vet bills are already hard on alot of them and with less people giving to charities they are already hurting.

Let's hope this isn't something that will become the norm, because that would lead to serious problems to what's already a difficult one.

Is this a CA tax you're talking about? Here in ID there are no taxes on any services; vet, health care, haircuts etc. etc.

Dash I agree. That tax will be very discouraging for pet owners in California. I have family in Southern California, so I know the cost of living there is insane! Are they trying to make owning pets only for the elite and truly wealthy?

I just picked up the paper yesterday at the vets office........
"VETERINARY SERVICE TAX" The Governor of CA wants to add 9% sales tax to veterinary services.

This is insane. They are asking that you call the Governor's office at 916-445-2841

Press 1 for your language (hello, this is America), English, assuming that's what you want to hear.
Press 5 "calling to voice your opinion on a current hot issue", then
Press 1 "the proposition to extend the sales tax to cover veterinary
services" then
Press 2 in opposition to the proposition

With the economy slowing and many more pets up for adoption why should we be punished for taking ownership of these loving animals.

Hmm, can a former Californian call and put their two cents in?

Thanks Bella52,

I made lots of copies of your post and have passed the info out to everyone. Most people were unaware of the issue! However everyone said they would call and that they would pass it on to others! It would be so horrible to see this pass. The Governor should be getting lots of calls thanks to you!
