Not a pleasant story. If you can't handle the gawd awful truth about the sickos in our society don't read this. Just don't try to rehome your dog or any pet on Craig's List. Just don't do it.

I read the headline and I stopped. That is really sick but couldn't this happen to a dog that was adopted at a shelter or bought from a breeder?

I am currently looking to adopt and I am also checking craigslist as the shelters here have limited amount of dogs.

Sociopath. He was just practicing. I hope they make him serve the full five years and someone keeps an eye on him after that.

I can only hope that there is a special place in hell for "people" and I use this term loosely that do these kinds of things.

Yes it could happen to any dog from anywhere. Even one that has been with the deranged person for years. I'm glad this guy was caught and punished.

I too am looking for a new dog, and I look on CraigsList as well as PetFinder and local shelters. I am also in an area where the shelters have only a handful of dogs, and most of those are too big for me. This story really has nothing to do with CraigsList -- it's just a classified listing like you see in your local newspaper (another good place to look for a dog).

I have listed pets I rescued on CL and it can work, if you are careful with the screening. I asked very detailed questions, not many, such as how many pets or what kind they own (if I'm rehoming a cat who doesn't like dogs, I need to know), proof of donation of at least $20 to the local shelter of their choice and a vet reference. Most people who emailed me saying how much they want the pet will walk away if I asked them these questions. Those who take the adoption seriously didn't mind. There are good owners out there who are checking CL and other search database for a pet.

Many people complain about how many hoops they have to jump through to adopt from rescues or price they have to pay to adopt from shelters. Most CL dogs are free with very little checking references, etc.

Don't believe you can blame Craig's list for some sick human getting a dog and burning them alive. That would be like blaming GM for a drunk driver. It's not the medium, it is the person.
Hopefully, the person is placed in a jail full of dog lovers, and never walks out!
