We celebrated our kiddo's birthday today, although it was actually on March 17th. Pearl and Jersey Blue turned 5 years old. I know we are probably big dorks at our house for getting a doggie cake, balloons and taking pictures (as incriminating evidence). Does anyone else do these things with their furry babies(lol)?

I would love it if you shared your doggie cake recipe. We bought ours from a dog bakery here in town. I would enjoy baking and decorating the next cake.

This is one I use and the dogs love it...you can substitute your meat choice if they prefer something else instead of chicken. I usually make them in cupcakes or small bundts.

350g (12oz) chopped or minced chicken
4 eggs
1c flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2c oatmeal
1/2 c corn oil
Finely chopped parsley (optional)
1/2c grated carrots

Preheat oven to 350º

Grease and flour the cake tin

Finely chop or mince the chicken then puree the chicken with the eggs and corn oil in a blender or food processor

Grate the carrot and finely chop the parsley (optional)

Add the vegetables to the meat mixture and blend together until completely mixed

Sift flour and baking powder together in a large mixing bowl and stir in oatmeal. Make a well in the center of the flour and gradually stir in the blended meat/vegetable mixture.

Pour into greased cake tin.

Bake for about 50-60 minutes. Remove and let cool for about 30 minutes.

Then spread icing - yougurt or cream cheese is what I use.

Then depending on your dog's tastes, decorate with grated vegetables or chopped fruit.

Then I use a few "Pupperoni" sticks in place of candles

Don't feed the entire cake to the dog in one go It will keep in the icebox for 3-5 days.

Happy, happy puppies!

Happy birthday to your babies! OF COURSE we do this! We always celebrate with a special gift or treat. Our dogs are our kids and we treat them as such. My girl turned 5 in February, one of my boys will be 4 in May and our latest addition is a 10 week old pup and I am marking each week as a milestone. Can't wait for the little guy's 1st birthday.
