What's in a bark? A new study suggests that 6-month-old babies know the answer. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20090724/hl_hsn/babiescancomprehendcaninelanguage - broken link)
Some of this stuff just seems like common sense, but some is intriguing.
It is interesting to think about the abilities we are born with, and which get developed, and which just sort of fall by the wayside.
wow, I can't believe they are wasting time and money on this study... Heck, I had a 2 month old... 2 month's to the day in fact, tell me he wanted his binky!!! He was up on my shoulder and after 20 mins or so got cranky and I knew he wanted a nap... and so he kept leaning and falling across my chest and the second time I realized he was actually reaching with his hand so I looked down at the kitchen table and sure enough there amongst a sea of tall hair conditioner-shampoo-etc bottles was his pacifier! I didn't even know it was there!
So, it doesn't surprise me in the least that a 6 month old can interpret a dog's bark!
Ok, I have to add that I surely agree with you on nurturing abillities, I shudder to think of what possibilities I could've been had the right nurturing taken place... I know I was quite ignored much of the time!
