This is going on right now on Reunion Island which is controlled by the French. I joined to fight this on my Facebook page. Please spread the word.
The video is graphic as I could not watch it. I do know the story already though and what is going on.
People need to know this! This is very upsetting....what is this world coming to?
Moderator cut: link removed video is too graphic If you want a link send a DM to the OP

Info. as to how to join and fight this on Facebook. I am glad to see a young girl like this caring and getting involved!

No, I could not watch that. That said, I really wish that when something like this is of concern that you not post a video. A brief summary--without graphic pictures or video--would suffice.
Is there a link to join the fight?

Click on the link to the second youtube video I posted. I have only seen the link to fight this on facebook accounts. If you have a facebook page the little girl in the second video tells you how to link it.

I posted the video because that is what it takes sometimes for people to react. Not all are touched by words alone!
Some people will read a title and close out!
(I do know however, that most of us on this site will fight for a cause without a video).

Thank goodness for snopes! My stomach lurched when I saw the picture & hoped that it was a hoax.
Thanks for checking on it!

Well, it appears that some of it is misinformation, but there is some truth to it. Although it was in 2005. I was horrified by the idea too and that's why I went searching.

There's been a big buzz in France about that a few years ago. It was so shocking!

This was great, thank you. What a great website.
As a student of French, I was a bit concerned (and surprised) that the French government was not doing anything about this. But apparently they are, as are many others.
But the OP's original post was also eye-opening and informative.

Sorry, but I did not do a whole lot of research on this as of yet. I have found an original article from July 1st. 2007

Here is the original article written by the National Geographic reporter:

Dogs Used as Shark Bait on French Island
By Maryann Mott
for National Geographic News

Live and dead dogs and cats are being used as shark bait by amateur fishers
on the French-controlled island of Réunion, according to animal-welfare
organizations and local authorities.

The small volcanic island off Africa's east coast is bursting with stray
dogs—upward of 150, 000, says Reha Hutin, president of the Paris-based
Fondation 30 Millions d'Amis (the Thirty Million Friends Foundation).

Hutin sent a film crew to Réunion this summer to obtain proof that live
animals were being used as shark bait. The goal was to expose the practice
on the animal rights group's weekly television show.
