you are able to do this, many people train this way. you have to take them out on a lead and only let them go in that spot. after awhile you take them off the lead but go with them to make sure they go there, or to encourage them to go there if they start to wander off. after a good while and depending on how smart the dog is they catch on. way more trouble than just letting them go anywhere they want, but lots easier when you have to pick the stuff up thats for sure. good luck
Also depends on how Smart Trainer You are LOL You have to be consistant & PRAISE then the dog goes in the right area. & Clean Clean Clean the areas he goes that you dont want him to use. Just like potty training inside!! How old is your Doggie? & What Breed/s is s/he? Not got a thing to do with your questions I just Nosey LOL
Well, I want to get a German Shepherd pup, male. I lost one a couple years ago and I need another 'big guy'. I have a fenced back yard of probably 2 acres.
We have a very large yard, so we put chicken wire up to discourage the area we didn't want them to use and to encouraged them to use the area we sectioned off. We left the wire up for a month and then took it down. Now they automatically go to the area they were trained to "potty" in.
We're trying to do this too. We re-sodded a part of our yard after years of dog damage by our 3 big dogs that have all now passed on, and it finally looks decent and this is where our new puppy has decided he wants to go. We have a 10' x 30' side yard and this is where we'd like him to go as it is sandy and shady so no grass grows. He has gone there, but not consistently. I've tried to take his poop that I've picked up for the other part of the yard and pile it there to encourage him, but he seems to prefer the nice grass.
One has to go out & pick up the turds every day anyway, so why not get your exercise walking about to pick all of it up. No big deal.
