My son is in a cabin in the nC mountains and I decided
to help him find a good warm dog House for his small
lab mix (50 pounds).

I thought a log cabin dog house would be great, but if the igloo
type is warmer that is the most important thing.

What type dog house is good.

The cabin! Maybe get him a crate to sleep in if he doesn't want him loose inside.

Why does it need to be a warm house? Does the dog sleep outside in cold weather? The best dog house for my dog is my house. He wouldn't have it any other way.

Okay..everybody relax..
This dog is not going to be left chained outside 24/7

She will be an inside outside dog that will enjoy both
and will be sleeping in a warm cabin at night beside a
fireplace

We want a dog house so when she is outside she has a place
to nap and a place to get cozy in case she is caught outside in a rain.

Pick up a bale of straw (hay works to but is more $ and is really meant for feed) to add to the house as insulation. One bale should last a long time since she will not be using it full time.

For some people the definition of an abused dog is one who is not allowed to sleep UNDER the covers.

There is a rescue group in Calif, D.E.L.T.A. Rescue, that makes dog houses of hay/straw bales for their 1,000+ dogs (no-kill, no adopt shelter in the hills). You can google them and email them, I believe they send the directions to anyone who asks.
