Default There should be a dog rental service! :)

For people like me, who love dogs, love going to the park or hiking with a dog, but can't currently own a dog. For me, I am traveling so much right now, and for rather long periods of time (like 1+ months at a time) that it would be really unthoughtful of me to get a pet.

But I really miss running with a dog sometimes, or taking one to the park to play. Anyone want to loan me their dog for a weekend?

How about volunteering at a shelter or rescue? You can walk the dogs and play w/them when you have the time.

FLEXPETZ - Flexible Pet Ownership This is sort of like pet rental. I totally agree with you! When I travel without my dog I wish we could request a extra friendly dog to stay in our hotel room For some reason some people are very against stuff like this....I don't know why

Yep, sorta along those lines. Woefully expensive though. It's $100/mo and then $45/day and you are charged a minimum of 4 days a month. Yowzers, if my slapdash mental math is correct that is about $280/mo. Great idea though, and it looks like they are taking in lost and abandoned animals.

Excellent idea and a huge plus for the dog as well as the volunteer. In fact, if someone responsible would want to walk mine once in a while, I'm sure they'd love the walk and the extra attention, it's a win-win deal for both (actually have seen an ad on Craigslist for someone who wanted to jog w/ a dog and was willing to provide ref's, not sure if it ever worked out but it sure sounded like it would).

You should foster. I have 1 dog right now but dont think I can commit to a 2nd right now, so I'm just going to foster....Here's my newest one (the tan one) that I pulled from the shelter yesterday...

Or you can look online to see if anyone ever needs a dogsitter for a few days...plus you get paid to hang out with a dog! =)

I'd love to foster, but with my work schedule I can be in town one day and suddenly out of town with no warning the next, for days on end. I would make a terrible foster 'mom' until that schedule settles down.

Actually the poster that suggested volunteering at a shelter is probably the closest I can get to being able to spend some time with some nice dogs and not have to worry about whether I'll be out of town or the country the next day.

Glad you'll be able to lend a helping hand to an animal in need, one way of another!
