Hi all,
This is my first post, and I hope you guys can help with your opinions.
I adopted a puppy from a shelter and we were all guessing what he might be. Shelter said it was a collie mix. Well, curious, we did a DNA test, turned out he has pug as secondary category, and doberman and rottweiler in the mix.
He is the cutest thing ever, 5 months old and weighs about 25 pounds.
I knew before that genetics is a wonderful and puzzling science, now I have a proof...pictures are below (sorry for the poor quality), what do you think (for the life of me I see no pug...)
St Bernard, Great Pyrenees (does it have an extra dewclaw on each back leg?), or Bernese Moutain dog. Looks mostly Bernese to me. Although for 5 months, it's definitely got a smaller breed in there for sure.
Don't give too much weight to the DNA testing right now. Go on the internet and look into it. I've been doing a lot of research on the DNA tests because of the work I do in BSL fighting, and have found it's really very limited in what it can tell you.
My last guess is it's just plain stinking cute as can be!
He sure looks like Bernese Mountain dog to me, especially the quality of his coat and his facial markings. I'm kind of lost with those spots on his legs, though.
LOL, I like that description: "just plain stinking cute!" I second that!
I see the Bernese Mountain dog as well. The spotting on the coat can indicate either pointer or dalmation. It is more difficult to guess breed when they are young; you will see more definitive traits as he gets older (my GSD didn't even look like a GSD when she was a pup.) The DNA test may prove to be accurate but those things tend to be more innacurate than accurate.
And I agree as well: "just plain stinkin' cute!"
