Yeah I actually do feel like they are holding all the cards. My brother was turned down multiple times from the shelter and rescues because he didn't have a fence, he finally just bought a dog from a breeder, and got one of those radio type containment fences once he got the dog. He wasn't going to spend the money on a fence until he got a dog.
About a year ago, I went to the shelter to look for a dog, and they said that since I have young kids, I should get a puppy. Well a rescue said that since I have young kids I should get an older dog. It's like, come on folks, will someone just please let me have a dog. So alas, we dropped the topic for a while until we found the listing for Sugar. She really does fit every request I have in a dog. So we'll see. I'm not going to email them again. They know we want her, so we'll just wait until the end of the week to see what they say.
I really hope it works out for you. Our Lila has been the perfect addition to our family, so we don't have to worry about this any longer.

I truly hope you get the dog you want. As for me, I will never use a rescue or shelter again. I was so disgusted with their list of requirements and on-site inspection requirements that I just gave up and got my last dog from Craig's List. My next dog will either come from a breeder or a puppy mill. These rescues/shelters are their own worst enemy.
