Default Meet our Calendar Girl!

Our rescue Chessie, Samantha (Sammie), is "Miss January" in the Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief & Rescue (CBRR&R) Calendar for 2010! Sammie had been abandoned by her previous "owners" and left to starve in a house that they had been evicted from. Sammie was 47 lbs when she was rescued by a CBRR&R volunteer in Ohio and was suffering from serious skin, ear and eye infections. DH & I decided to adopt her after we saw her story on the CBRR&R website. Thankfully, her health has radically improved with proper diet & care and she has come a long way in her rehabilitation. I've never met a sweeter Chessie than our Sammie! CBRR&R just released the sample of the new 2010 calendar on their website and I couldn't resist showing you our sweetie. Take a look at the "Glamour Girl" at the link below:

I had to look at all of them - they are so gorgeous! Sammie looks very happy.

I can't understand how people would just abandon their dog. I rescued one who was left in the back yard of a house, no food or water; the neighbors heard herb and started throwing food over the fence. My friends ought the house and got her out. So cruel on so many levels.

The Calendar Chessies are a good looking group, aren't they? Every one of them was in rescue at some point. Some are still fosters and others (Like Sammie) now have their forever homes.

As for the scum that abandoned her...and others like them..... to me they are just a waste of DNA. They treat companion animals as if they are nothing more than furniture - to be discarded when not wanted anymore. I wish I knew where to find Sammie's former owners so I could be sure no other animal is suffering at their hands.

I also had to look at the entire calendar! A gorgeous dog for every month of the year!! I used to live on the Eastern Shore of MD, by the Chesapeake Bay and, naturally, these dogs were local favorites. Real beauties!
