You guys probably familar with my situation. I've posted on this board tons of times regarding seperation anxiety..

My 21 lb Manchester Terrier has separation anxiety. He is 16 months old, and we've had him for 8 months now. We originally thought he would make a great apartment dog (we were living in an apartment at the time that we got him). He had anxiety about being home alone, so we put him in day care 5 days a week until we moved out of the apartment and leased a house with a giant back yard for him.

We now leave him in the backyard for the 3 hours a day we are not home. We thought this would help his anxiety since he has 6000 sq ft. of back yard to play in while we are gone. He enjoys the backyard, but it hasn't helped with his anxiety.

His anxiety causes him to get all hyped up and behave in ways he wouldn't normally behave. It's come to the point where we now realize he would be better served by someone who understands his anxiety and will help correct it. I believe he needs to be with someone experienced in dealing with separation anxiety, someone who has a dog or 2 in his size category, and someone with a nice back yard for him to play in.

I don't want this thread to turn into "how could you turn your back on this dog" or "why don't you learn how to train him yourself". The fact of the matter is, we love this dog so much. We've spent thousands of dollars on trying to correct this problem. It's sickening to even think about giving my dog away, but it isn't about me anymore. I love him so much, and I'm so devastated about what is happening. I just think it would be best for him to go with someone who can help him get over this problem.

If anyone knows any good dog trainer that is willing to take my dog in as his forever home, please let me know. I don't want this problem to manifest any more then it already has. I feel like a complete failure and I'm so upset with myself, but I can't do this anymore. The dog deserves better.

If you can help me, please let me know.

Thanks

P.S. He's neutered, healthy, and up to date on all of have shots. He's a real sweet boy.... I'd also take him back in a heart beat once he's feeling better.. He just can't keep living like this. It's driving him and us nuts..

I would go with a behaviorist, not a trainer. Here is a site where you can search for behaviorists in your area. Good luck!

Might I recommend a visit with Chris the dog trainer at the PetSmart on Chandler/101?

He's amazing. Some call him the Arizona dog whisperer

You and your dog go to him for one training session, and I guarantee you'll have your answer to his behavior problems and/or a good reference of where to rehouse your dog.

I was referred to him by 4 coworkers, and my dog made significant and noticable changes in just one week. I think one session is $79. It's well worth your money!

DM me if you need the phone #...
