He just picked up a Catahoula puppy at the pound last night. Pics will soon be posted. I am needing tips and advice for our female Catahoula named Zoe . Thanks!

We recently adopted a male Catahoula-beagle mix and have been learning about the breed, as well, since we have experience with beagles but none with Catahoulas and really didn't know anything about the breed until we researched before adopting him.

Love those catahoulas! I had one a few years back that we named her Bernadette, called her Bernie. She was so ugly she was cute Not much of a barker but she would silently stalk folks she felt should not be on our property. Nip their heels and send them on their way. The dogs are very devoted to their family and cautious of strangers. I would recommend a fence because of their protectiveness. For example, if Bernie put her head over the property wall you could pet her but she would not tolerate someone putting their hand over onto our side. Just little things like that that you should keep in mind to avoid any problems. I would definitely socialize your pet early just to break down some of the barriers they might have. There also must be one person who is alpha in the house as they are pack dogs. This will give your pet confidence as well as help with training and house rules. They are working dogs but if you are able to spend some time each day walking the neighborhood or throwing ball that will help your pup alot. Very low maintenance too. Enjoy your catahoula as we sure did love ours
