Weird "Bone" under my dogs knee
Hey guys, I have a 6 year old mini pin / manchester mix. Recently I found (dont remember it ever being there, maybe I just never noticed) a very hard ball under his knee on the inside of his back leg, at least it feels like a bone its that hard. It doesnt move, its just a hard ball. It only appears when he is sitting or lying, when he stands I dont see it. He does not seem to be in any discomfort, he runs well, jumps, is eating fine and is acting normal. Is this normal for him to have? My other dog died of a tumor on his knee and it felt very different then this but i am still very paranoid about this. Please help.
I am attaching a picture of him, as you can see the "ball" is on his back leg under his knee. Anyone know what it is? Is it normal?

no, I just noticed it last night and now I'm at work. He did go for a regular check up about 2 months ago but I don't remember the vet even looking at his leg. He also had some blood work done, everything came fine. I don't know what to do....

I'm concerned that it might be a growth. As I'm sure you know, it's best to get it checked out by a vet. Please keep us posted!

Could it be a cyst? I would definately make an appt with the vet and have it checked out. None of my dogs have anything like that on their knees.

Vet check ASAP...especially since it could have grown that fast in such a short time.

Ooh, good thought. I had a cyst on my wrist once and it felt very hard like the OP is describing.

The reason I thought of a cyst is because my dog had one on his back and it grew very fast and was very hard. Vet recommended removing it right away and they tested it to make sure it was only a cyst. Everything turned out fine. Hopefully Steven's dog's lump will be something simple like that.

It looks like it could be a cyst, obviously have your dog checked as soon as you can to make sure it's nothing scary. I was raised with a malamute that developed a benign fatty tumor, and the vet was initially against removing it because it was small and benign and he wasn't a fan of invasive surgery unless totally medically necessary. It did grow, however, and he did end up removing it, and it was a relief when it was gone, even though it was nothing life-threatening.
