PORT ST. LUCIE — A 31-year-old man was arrested about 10 a.m. Monday on animal cruelty charges for allegedly dragging a dog nearly 2 miles behind his pickup truck.

According to Port St. Lucie Police Department reports, Napoleon Davis, who told police he was homeless and living with a brother in the 1500 block of Iffla Avenue, said he was taking the dog to the Humane Society of St. Lucie County because his relatives would no longer take care of it.

This happens all too often. People are just ignorant, cruel, idiotic.
There are other recent stories but I won't link to them.
A pitbull in the back of a pickup is common enough that people even have that image depicted on bumper stickers, and websites which warn about doing just that.
These are such devoted dogs, and it breaks my heart to see their loyalty repaid in such a manner.

I just called the vet clinic. Holly lost at least three of her toes, and has several skin grafts to go through. She's apparently a sweetheart.

People were pulling up alongside of his truck yelling and screaming at him to stop. He had no idea what they were doing (sarcasm, in case it was too subtle).

The laws in Fla are extremely lax as far as animal cruelty goes. The evildoer is already out of jail. In this part of the country, he'd still be wearing a bullet-proof vest.

bless your heart for checking, WF. Too bad the laws are so lax. In the redneck southern town my dad's family is from the laws are now not so lax because the citizens there take people like that joker and handle it themselves. He would wish he had never been born. They don't play. So lawmakers now make it a felony to do such to animals and they enforce it.

I hope the fur baby recovers and gets a loving new family to care for her.

The laws are lax but the people are not. That man is so fortunate that I didn't drive by him
