No dog, of any breed, should ever be left alone with young children.

It is a horrible tragedy.

Nowhere does it say the child was left alone with the dog. Why is everyone assuming that? The dog could have attacked the child right in front of the parents. If it went straight for the throat, they might not have had time to stop it.

My guess is, the Mediots are so quick to "run" with a story before they could be bothered with getting all the details and facts that speculation is all their viewers can do these days. So then they'll tease the viewers with "Coming up! New details on that....!" which they will most likely MILK and drag out for a week with more vagueness -- that's IF the story is sensational enough to warrant further "investigation."

According to the story, the child walked by the dog and it happened for no apparent reason. I really have a hard time imagining that scenario with just that description.

Regardless of how it happened, it is a horrible.

The family has lost both their child and their 8 year old pet a few days before Christmas.

How devastating for that family...just a flash in time and lives forever changed.

We probably all ran various scenarios through our minds to try to explain how such a thing could happen. Regardless of how, it's heartbreaking.

This brought to mind an old case from the 80s: http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20089854,00.html , involving another breed that you wouldn't expect to hear associated with such a tragedy.
