My 14 year old American Eskimo has been very ill. Vet says it is early-stage renal failure. He "prescribed" Hill's K/D canned food, but no medication. The first night she ate almost 1/2 a can and did incredibly better the next morning, but since then she will only take a few bites of it. She is still doing better, but can anyone suggest a healthy alternative to this K/D formula that she will eat? It isn't the cost so much as she has to like it and eat it for it to help her! Any suggestions? Also, can my other healthy senior dachshund eat her food too or do I have to feed them separately with different foods? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Back when Dash was alive and had developed Calcium oxalate bladder stones and the vet said he heeded to be on Hills UD diet I found a group on Yahoo that used a special diet called the Fuzzer diet. One of the women was very good at helping with kidney issues and diets for them so you might want to check out this group as she will even go over lab work with you and help you decide what to do. You do have to join the group but a few years ago it was a great group.http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/K9KidneyDiet/
