I came across this toy that looks fabulous! Of course, Artie would destroy it (and eat the computer chip) in a matter of seconds, so I won't be buying it, but I thought I'd pass along the info in case anyone's interested.
You record your own message in the computer chip, place the chip back in the "bone," and when your dog moves or bites on it, your message -- in your voice -- plays.
I thought this sounded fabulous for dogs with separation anxiety (Artie doesn't have that -- he sleeps when I'm not home) or for dogs that don't dissect their toys and eat the innards (which Artie does).
There are a bunch of different sources (with different prices) but here's one:
I wish I could get one for Artie but there's no point -- it would be destroyed instantly. But if any of you get it, I'd love to hear if your dog liked it.
Dylan had a bear similar to this as a puppy. It was encased in a plastic egg and you recorded on it. Whenever the bear was jostled, it spoke. I still have the egg thing...the bear is long gone. We recorded him barking as a puppy on it.

We move every once in awhile to make it bark and Dylan's ears perk up. Somehow...and I don't pretend to understand how....Chris downloaded it on to my computer, so when mail comes in...it is Dylan's puppy bark I hear alerting me to it. Woof

How funny! I'm going to send you email now, just to make Dylan happy!
I sing to PC on a regular basis. In fact, he has his very own song. I wonder if I recorded it and gave him this toy when he went to his pet sitter's house if he'd come home with the toy still intact or if the pet sitter would claim it "mysteriously" disappeared.

You THINK he's sleeping when you're not home, but Artie-McFartie is having parties with The Beeze. In fact, those parties might be part of the reason Beeze has been sleeping the way he has

Trust me, you do not want to be anywhere near me when I sing!
