So my wife and I have a 2 yr old black lab/unknown mix (Harley). We adopted Harley from the Humane Society in Oct 08' and he was 1 yr old at the time. Late last fall we noticed a small growth beneath the inner edge of his right eye lid. We questioned our vet about it, who said that unless it seemed to bother him or began to grown rapidly, we shouldnt worry as it was most likely nothing. Unfortunately it grew quite a bit in just over a month and we opted to have it surgically removed.
We were given the news today that it is "fibrosarcoma", a type of cancer, and although the mass was removed with ease, there are some concerns about the surrounding tissue. All I have been able to find online is that this is typical in older dogs and commonly found in extremeties or near the hind-end. Nothing I have found refers to animals as young as Harley and/or occuring near the eyes. Any information would really be helpful in putting our minds at some sort of ease, or at least giving us a better idea of what we are up against. We appreciate any help!
