I hope this passes! I know several other states, besides CA, are voting on this as well. It's like Megan's Law for dog abusers. There will be a national registry that will be made public so you can see where all the animal abusers live.
MAK, Animal Legal Defense Fund and In Defense of Animals are heavy-hitters. Bravo to them for sticking their necks out to protect animals and change our laws.
BTW, I got all sad when I checked your link. There's an abuser listed by the name of Vicki Kittles. She's very famous around these parts (Pacific Northwest); she'd get arrested, do her time and then move to another state or city and start the whole hoarding process all over again.
I rescued my beautiful Lulu from the county shelter. Lulu was part of scores of dogs and cats which had been confiscated from Kittles when she lived in this area. Lulu had been in the shelter for over a year before the case was adjudicated. They loved her at the shelter and were trying to make her stay there as comfortable as possible.
Lulu was catatonic. She was so frightened of everything she would just stand in a corner and shake. Not to mention her many health issues. It was months before she'd even try to wag her tail.
I've had my dog Wolf for over fourteen years. And in all that time, I haven't spent nearly as much money on Wolf's medical care as I did on Lulu in the two short years I had her.
Sweet little Lulu was one of the lucky ones.
Thanks for the heads up on IDA campaign, MAK. May the abusers all understand someday the horror they put these animals through.
