Seriously. Willie is frequently called any and all of the above in our house: Willis, Wilhelm, Wills, William, Guillaume, Guillermo, Prince William, Willie-woo, Ghostface Killah/Ghostie (he has a white face that contrasts with the rest of him). Others, too, I'm sure.

I was hoping you'd pick Copper as well - my son used to love that Disney movie when he was little. And I'll bet you'll not get lost in a sea of 'Cooper's".

I have a Westie named Ringo and so far, it's been pretty unique. My friend's teen-age daughter thought of the name.

But my other friend - got a dog last year - and named it Ringo! I'm thinking . . . think up your own name!!!

I also have a female Yorkie named Lucy. There are so many of those, I can't even count.

So I'm 1 out of 2 in the name game.

"Ringo" -- that's adorable, and yes, very unique! I'd be ticked off if the friend copied the name, too.

It is a big trend, apparently, that dogs are being named after humans (as you found with Lucy). Some of the more popular ones in our area -- Bailey, Sophie, Molly -- and now more formal human names like Walter and Michael....pretty funny, actually....but geez, it's hard to find unique names, isn't it?

My parents' lab is Wilma, a name she came with. I've not met another.

Oh, Wilma is hilarious and so cute! I really struggled naming Casey -- I started a spreadsheet of names, actually. Being a Westie, he's small but not too small, and has a big-dog personality, so I didn't want to name him a "tiny dog" name (e.g., Peanut), nor a large-dog name (Rocky). I didn't want to name him a joke name, or a silly name, or a feminine name, and I didn't like the typical Scottish (Westie) names. Anyway, I'm happy with my choice of Casey (for the male) and Comet (for the new female puppy) -- their names fit them, for sure!

Growing up, we had a malamute named Ginger, and an Irish setter named Kelly. The rest of our dogs over the years came to us with names already, but Ginger and Kelly, we named.

I'll bet Casey and Comet make quite a pair!

more on the dog-song tip:

"got a gal named wilma" (it starts at about 6 minutes in)

YouTube - Three Hackamore Brick songs (audio, album cover)

and one for my dog (this one is actually about a dog):

YouTube - Joanna Newsom :: Sadie

and i suspect this might be the source of lucy's name?

YouTube - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Maybe I'm just old -- I would've thought Wilma was for the "Flintstones" and Lucy was for Lucille Ball, ha ha! But I just discovered Joanna Newsom on Jimmy Fallon a few weeks ago and love her!

i'm sure wilma's not named after the hackamore brick song - they were super obscure. it's just what i think of when i hear the name cause i'm a dork.

i also like singing songs to my pets that have their names in them (or that i can change to have their names in them) and i thought maybe other people do and might like to hear some new ones!

i call all the animals pookie on occasion so my latest song is "my my my pookie face, my my pookie face".

i wouldn't have assumed lucy in the sky with diamonds for lucy except that their other dog is named ringo! it seems like there's a theme there. i'd be curious to know if i'm right.
