Thought I would give you all an update. It has been almost a month and he was starting to swell again. I went back to the vet yesterday and told her, he had started sleeping in the crate which he did before when he was getting really sick. I was upset and told her we needed to try something.

She gave me some more pills for fluid, a heart med and antibiotic. Today he is almost normal size and is pee'ing a lot.

I'm sorry to hear that Rocky isn't doing good again. Did they ever confirm it was cancer? Sending prayers for the little guy!

Cheering the little guy on - could it be his heart? Sounds like when mine had serious heart problems.

She said he has an enlarged heart plus a heart murmur. She did give him vetmedin for his heart. I am hoping this will help him. I could not stand watching him swell up again although she said if the pills didn't help she would remove the fluid at no charge to me.

Did your baby loose his hair? Rocky has lost a lot of hair but that could be from when his system was so messed up, calcium level near 0 and anemic. He still sleeps a lot but is more alert

He didn't loose his hair but he had the constant fluid and I had him on 7 different meds. He was born with a heart defect and when he was 4 mos he starting coughig a lot - turned out he was drowning in his own blood which was getting in his lungs. He had open heart surgery at 4 mos and was fine til he was 5 years and then he got bad again - fluid, etc... He lived until he was 7 - many emergency trips to the "U" Vet Hosp in the middle of the night.

Glad Rocky is doing better.

My vet told us that the heart murmur is pretty standard for small dogs. Both of our toy poodles have had it.
