OMG.....was surfing petfinder and found this lovely labrador. My lab is too ill right now for me to adopt and I am too far away to get to this poor little thing.

Adoptable Yellow Labrador Retriever: Charlie-URGENT: Petfinder

He looks so much like my 12.5 yr old lab did at his age. I feel so guilty not to be able to do anything.

Can anyone reading this help? Please?

Sigh.....just found 3 labrador rescue organizations in IL & MO; e-mailed the petfinder link to them. I sure hope someone can rescue this little guy.

i can't take him, but i was going to suggest you google lab rescue groups.... i know that there are a couple or 3 in illinois and indiana..... and one in tulsa that helped me out of a jam last year......

what a GORGEOUS fella.... hope it is not too late for him......

tell them if it helps, you have a transporter for a lot if not all of the trip........

I might be able to assist in transport too if he's coming up near Chicago at all. I'll also ask my neighbor if he'd be willing to adopt Charlie. He owns a farm in central Illinois and is a dog lover (he's always saying he wants my doggy!). I'm not sure if he's in town right now though, grrr.

Thank you so much for the positive responses latetotheparty and whatyousay! I would take him myself if I thought my old lab could handle it. No response e-mails yet from the lab rescue organizations. Keeping paws crossed. Again, thank you for your efforts.

contact the shelter first thing in the morning tomorrow and see if you can put a 24-48 hour hold on him .... that will buy a little breathing room to see if a rescue can be accomplished....

i will send you the lab rescue groups i was in contact with last year.... all very helpful........

if they can't help you, i will put some more feelers out to see what we can do.....

eta: jacksonville is a little west of springfield, il ... about halfway between whatyousay and me..... not too far a drive for either of us..... depending on which direction he ends up going ........

My neighbor is at his farm, but I'll get his cell number and give him a call in the morning. I also forwarded it to my brother in-law... he said he'd see if he can't find someone looking for a lab.

If you can, call the shelter in the morning and see if anyone has put in for him yet, and if not, what the pull fees are and if you need to be associated with a rescue group or not.

Thank you, I'll call the shelter in the morning. I e-mailed them tonight to see what I could do, if a donation would keep him alive another week. SIGH.

Thank you so much. I don't think my old lab can take it but I may try if no one else can save him. Just had a huge falling out with my boyfriend of 7 years over this. He wouldn't take him for the time my old lab has left on this earth. He said it "wasn't practical" and "we can't save them all". I told him I was only asking his help with THIS one.

I think I am going to be an old maid, surrounded by dogs one day.

Better company right?
