First of all...
I am very, very , very sorry for your loss. I know your hurting. We lost our big boy on 1-31-10. I feel your pain...
I
TOTALLY AGREE...with Mrs 1885...Rottnboys...& LTTP...
My hubby & I have rescued Rotties for over 20 years. Before that we bought from breeders.
We will ONLY rescue now and that is what we will always do.
I mean think about it...what is a piece of paper, do you really need that ?
There are so many homeless Rotts out there. One of the sadest is people losing their homes & they have to give up their Rotty.
When we were looking for a new Rotty...we found MANY males...not many females. Since we had already adopted a male 2 years previously, we wanted a female hopefully around his age. Our other female is getting too old to play with him, she'll be 9 years old this year.
The internet is such a great tool. We went thru petfinders and other sites.
petfinders is great too.
Found a couple females... they didn't check out. (These were on other sites).
One person couldn't tell me anything about the dog..."
RED FLAG"
Another person said, the female Rott needed all her shots, and that's why they were giving her away. I asked for a heartworm check & a fecal tests. This person said she didn't like their vet. I told her I would pay CASH if the tests came back negative. She said "NO".
So there were "
2 RED FLAGS" on that Rott.
I couldn't find any females that would work with our dogs... so I checked out Craigslist.
Finally we found a female 250 miles away. We drove their ourselves to check out the situation.
The owners were great.
We adopted the Rotty and she has turned out to be a wonderful addition to our family.
(Rotts are our family, cause we don't do kids...just dogs).
Rottnboys is so right...rescuing is the best thing you can do.
Not just for the Rotty, but for your heart. just knowing you rescued a Rotty, will make you feel wonderful...forever.
Just what ever you do...do the research.
Best of luck to you in finding your new Rotty.
