We use Frontline on our dog, which has worked in the past, but this season, we continue to find ticks on the dog. My understanding is that we need to treat the yard, which I will do first thing tomorrow. I have an additional concern. How long does a tick stay on the dog before it bites? The reason I ask is because we are finding the ticks late at night, when the dog has not been outside for six hours or more. The ticks seem to be just starting the cycle, and in some cases, have not made their way under our pup's skin. Are they in our house?
How often do you use the Frontline? Our vet recommends every 3 months for fleas, but every month for tick control. Also, I think what we use is called Frontline Plus. Perhaps it is a better version for tick control, I don't know. Yes, ticks can hang out on a dog for quite a while until they find a suitable spot to bite. It's unlikely (though possible) that they are in the house. They don't usually live and breed in the house like fleas. You might specifically check where the dog lays while in the house. It is possible that they are getting scratched off, then catching a ride the next time the dog lays down.
