Default Any Pug Owners Out There??

I'm thinking of getting a Pug later this month. I've been reading up on them and such for about 3 years now. I'm in love!! I really like them.

If you own a Pug, give me some advice and tips on how to care for them. Any information would be great. Thanks a million...Leana

We are not owners yet, but I have two kids that are in crazy pug love . . . they look online at every breeder, rescue/adoption within 200 miles of us.

They are quite expensive, but they are adorable . . . after we relocate we will be adding one to our big family of pets.

Good luck, those pugs are so ugly that they are sooooooo cute, and what personalities!!!!

We own several breeds, but my #1 favorite dog is the Boxer and Golden Retriever, but they get so big . . . it will be nice to have a smaller dog for a change.

We have two pugs, a fawn and a black one, both females, both runts. They are the BEST family pet, little snuggly snorty teddy bears! The most important thing to do is to love them like crazy! They are so great, the only thing I don't love about them is how much they shed but everything else outweighs the shedding problem.

Tips and things you might want to know before you get one...

1.They will be miserable if you work long hours and can not spend lots of time with them.
2. They have an affection for dirty laundry, if its not in the hamper they will either nestle in for a nap on it or possibly drag some of your under-garments around just to have your scent near.
3. They are like little body guards they go where ever you go, you will never pee alone again.
4. The biggest health risks are their eyes and breathing, without a snout to protect them its your job to keep them safe and not overheated.
5. They have human like personalities and while they all don't adhere to doing tricks they all seem to know how to use their cuteness to manipulate their owners.

I hope you are ready for the love of your life, good luck!

Just a suggestion but why not get a "Pug-like" mutt at a shelter. They desperately need homes and because of irresponsible breeders, some purebred dogs have more health issues. Surely there is a homeless mutt out there you could love? It's your own business where you get a dog but maybe you could give some thought about why you would pay a breeder when there are already more animals than homes for them? My friend recently got a "Puggamutt" and she is the best dog ever. Don't mean to lecture just wanted you to give mutts a chance!

We rescued our pug 2 years ago from a breeder who was going out of business. "Mack" was 4 years old at the time. He was kept outdoors and not used to human affection. As soon as we got him, we had him neutered and showered him with affection. He is a wonderful dog! A true couch potato! The only real drawback is that he, like all pugs, is very senitive to heat and humidity. We live in NC right now, so during the summer months we only go for walks once it cools off at night. I also have to wipe his face folds every day to avoid "junk" accumulating there, and his ears get cleaned a few times a week. Like another poster suggested, I would also check out pug rescue groups. Just google it, you should be able to find a rescue group somewhere near your part of the state. Good luck !

Well, next Sunday I'm going up to Payson, Az. and get my Pug!! I answered an ad in the paper yesterday and the lady was real nice and said she had 3 Pugs left. So, I told her I'd be down there next Sunday and she says they'll be there and she's saving the female for me. That is awesome!! So, I'll tell you more after. Talk to you later.

Congratulations ! Post a picture when you can. Have you picked a name yet? (BTW, my sister lives in Chino Valley and my niece is in Payson. I used to spend every summer in Prescott and Chino. Beautiful area!)

Yes, I'm going to name her Pearl. If I had 2, I would name the other Peggy Jo.

And yes, the summers are very nice here now. I have a great tan going on now.
