So we are training our 8 week old puppy the "crate way". Seems she has slipped a bit. Earlier in the week she went 2/3 days without messing in it. Then the last few she has pooped in it, she is actually holding her pee quite well.
We started in a smaller crate and recently moved her up into a bigger adjustable one (kept small know and only a bit bigger than her old crate) should we move her back down to the smaller one? (she'll fit fine..) or keep her in the big one?

Has anyone had similar experiences? it is getting rather old to clean out the crate 2-3 times a day....

It's amazing to have an 8 week old pup potty trained already. Give her a bit more time!

How long are you keeping her in the crate without a bathroom break? 8 week old puppies can't hold it all day (8 hours) they need to be let out every couple of hours to potty otherwise you're going to be cleaning up poop and pee when you get home from work.

An 8 week old pup needs to go outside a minimum of every 2 hours, how often are you taking her out?

So since the puppy is only 8 weeks old, I assume you just got it this week. You need to give her some time to adjust to new surroundings. Most aren't successfully potty trained til around 6 months of age, though it can be done earlier if you're vigilant.

Poo is a lot harder for puppies to hold in. If you changed her food from what she was eating before, or if she has an upset stomach at all, she will probably do anything to go to the bathroom if she has to. My dog, who I have had since 7 weeks, will do anything if she has diarrhea. But most likely, it's just the new crate size, like others have said.

Actually it's the fact that the dog is 8 weeks old and can't hold it for more than two hours at a time.

8 weeks is very very young, they almost always don't have the bladder and bowel muscle control at that young age that they'll have in the months to come. Would take her out often thruout the day as you dont want the piddling/pooping in the crate to become a bad habit. They want to be clean, it just takes a while, much like a human baby. Don't expect too much too soon or everyone will be stressed. 8 wk old puppies eat often and obviously need to go out often.

I didn't deny this. I just said pee vs. poo, if a puppy has to poop, it might not even make it to 2 hours because it's harder to hold in, especially since puppies are prone to upset stomachs.

Why would an 8 week old puppy need a bigger crate right now? Poor thing needs to be let out much more frequently than you are.
