Manufacturing and mills are a major part of Duluth’s economy, and the city is a huge transportation hub for manufacturing materials. But health care and education are major employers, too.

Dailybeast.com has posted it’s top 20 Best U.S. Cities to find a job (not necessarily a career) and our beloved Duluth ranks 12th and Rochester, MN is #1. Hailing from Rochester I could understand it being nemero uno, but stating that Duluth is 12th in the country is a little baffling. Is it that good here?

Perfect Duluth Day had a post about this a little while ago (Duluth 12th Best City in U.S. to Find Jobs? : Perfect Duluth Day | Duluth MN Blog, Events, News and More)

There are some interesting comments on there about the statistics used. It's more an estimated job outlook between 2008 and 2018.

haha, well the comments on that post were interesting and pretty much summed up my feeling about it.

While it's great to see Duluth mentioned in a list like that, I can't help but feel like this outlook is overly optimistic. Then again, a lot of things could change here in the next 10 years if we land a few major employers.

I think they meant to say "12% unemployment".

The way government tracks unemployment is like lying to oneself. They take out those people who have stopped looking for work so the actual figures are much, much higher than reported.
