Default Property taxes in/near Duluth, MN?

Hi!

It looks as though we will be moving to the Duluth area in a year from now. I'm wondering what the property taxes are like in the Duluth area (Duluth, Hermansville, etc). Where is a nice, safe place to live there? How about the school districts? Any better than others?

TIA for any info!

Cheryl

Hermantown is a very nice place to live and raise children! It is more expensive to live in that area. Lakeside/Congdon area in Duluth is a safe place to live as well with good schools. I use to rent an apt. in Duluth so I am not sure about the property taxes! Where are you guys moving from?

Talking Responce to taxes

It sounds like you'd like to be in a nice family area with good schools. If you want top notch schools try Esko! The area is beautiful and it's right between Duluth and Cloquet. Check the school's test scores you'll be impressed! Plus the prices of homes are still ok, but as far as Hermantown goes you'll be taxed and house poor! It's really expensive to live there. You'll need a 6-figure income to live comfortably. That does depend on whether you'd like a new home, or a older home that needs work???? So I guess you'd have to research that and decide for yourself. Hope that helps!! Good Luck!

Hi again,

We'll be moving from mid Michigan. Yeah, property taxes here are thru the roof, too. I was just telling someone looking for a house in Holt, MI (where we currently live) that our prop. taxes are close to $5000/yr. on a house <$200,000!!!

I'll check out Hermanville and Esko. Problem with Esko is that we need to be within 15 minutes of St. Luke's Hospital. I mapquested Esko last night and it looks to be a little farther than that. I'll meet with the realator when I'm there next month and see what's out there. Glad to hear about the schools, though, since we'll have one starting kindergarten next fall.

Thank you both!
