Is this part of Duluth safe?
Hello, everyone. My fiance and I are going to school at the University of Wisconsin Superior this year, but he has a job in Duluth and our families live nearby. We're looking for apartments in Duluth, not too far from the bridge (to make school travel easier). We just recently looked at a very nice set of newly renovated apartments at this address:
9 North 28th Ave at W. Superior St.
The building was shoddy on the outside (with a cafe/tavern installed in the front) and the area wasn't exactly pretty, but the apartments were beautiful and brand new and it looked relatively safe. We swung by later after dark to see if anyone was around, and we didn't see anyone lurking or anything like that. However, we're concerned about crime in this part of town. I know it's either near or in the infamous "Lincoln Park" area, which I've been warned away from. We live in northern Minnesota but don't have much experience with parts of Duluth other than Canal Park and the mall area. Should we go for it or look somewhere else (in Superior?) instead? Thanks for your help!

That area isnt bad! You guys will be just fine there. Just use common sense, at night lock your car and your apt. I would stay away from Superior. Its not that its "dangerous" there" its just not a very nice city to live in! Its kinda rundown and they tax on more items and there gas is more expensive! Good luck to you both of you!

It's not the best area, but not the worst either. It's in / near what I call the "trucking district" of the West End.
The sanitation plant is nearby, and can stink up the area if the winds are blowing right, though this is not a constant problem or anything.
The main post office is a few blocks away. A & Dubs is a good drive-in burger joint, open only in the summer, within walking distance, but be careful. I don't know if I'd advise walking alone at night in that area.
If you ever need carpet, our store is about a mile away

Thanks! Your comments are really helpful. It's hard to form an impression of a neighborhood when you've only been able to visit once or twice. When you say "it's not the best area, but not the worst either," do you mean in general or for crime?
