Yes. Scranton has a 60+ store lifestyle center known as "The Shoppes @ Montage." It also has a casino, where it is rumored that the Ruths Chris Steakhouse is going. The metro area has roughly 551,000 people, but the city itself is smaller than Duluth, with only about 70,000 residents. Most people here live in the suburbs.

See that is the major difference with our cities. Duluth could maybe support a lifestyle center but we dont have one currently. And second our metro is only around 200,000 and even with all of the tourists and Canadians we still fall short of Scrantons metro, and the metro are people that will always be there.

What do you consider to be a lifestyle center? I thought that the Miller Hill Mall is now classified as a lifestyle center with the Coldwater addition since you can only access that store from the outside. When they find tenants to take the other two spots they will be outside only as well.

The Duluth Metro also now includes Carlton county and Douglas County, WI. That increases our metro by another 75,000 people. Anyway, Lifestyle centers usually locate near wealthy suburbs. I do not think Duluth qualifies as wealthy. Maybe we will see more boutique style shops for the tourists?

LA Fitness indicates on their website that they will open a new club in New Brighton. That will make 5 clubs in the metro.

To classify a lifestyle center it must have more than 10 stores to be under this title. The Coldwater Creek area at Miller Hill Mall is not a lifestyle center due to only three stores having an entrance on the outside only and also becuase the majority of the stores have entrances from the inside. There are two lifestyle centers in Minnesota, The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove and Woodbury Lakes in Woodbury. Thanks for the news newcastle! I think the most expensive brand we could get up here is probably Coach, due to them opening a store in Rochester it shouldnt be that far off that we get one also.

I was just reading an article in the Star Tribune about Eagen getting another Cub Foods. Does anyone think its time for Duluth to get another Cub Foods, maybe down by the interstate, and also a Super Target and REI? I really think that down on Garfield we need a large retail development that would draw people from the highway. I mean Eagen is smaller than Duluth and they are getting a second Cub, I think its time we do too.

I am really surprised there isn't one there already or at least something like it.

Midnight Sun was kinda REI light. Too many old school types up there for an REI to stay open. They'll be walking in asking for Duluth packs and the REI folks will be scratching their heads.
