Nope! Its like a sloppy joe meat.... without the sloppy joe sauce. And they have really good buns and usually come with pickles and mustard. Its awesome. They are small, almost White Castle size. They also have wonderful shakes and malts.

I would actually love to see the Dayton's name again. Bring back the regional upscale department store! And bring one to Duluth!

They are good. But $2.50 for a small bun with 2 table spoons of loose meat, mustard, and re-hydrated onions is a rip off. Our Maid Rite is now a Starbucks.

Just spoke with a Panera manager today, and I told him they really should put a Panera in Duluth. He said "I'm working hard to get one for you guys". He said that they did have a spot picked out with a lot of parking. He said he believed it was over the hill "near Applebee's", but that they backed out at the last minute. He said the problem is that the stores have to be within 3 hours from Edina (where they make the dough). We fit the bill, and they said "OK, well - let's get something in between" to make it more worthwhile. Well, they didn't know where to put one about mid-way so they decided not to right now. He said the cries to get one are becoming too strong that they will have to do one soon, but they're not ready yet. He said you would not believe the number of people that request one in Duluth, and they can't ignore those requests for too long he said. He said he will continue to do everything he can to help push for it, because his customers are requesting it.
Anyway, I know it's anecdotal evidence, but it shows they do have a strong interest and have been scouting.
Not sure about the 'somewhere near Applebee's' thing, but must have meant Miller Hill area somewhere.

I just saw an article on the back page of the October Business North-Dunkin' Donuts and Chipotle are possible tenants for the parcel next to Residence Inn. The Land Use plan suggests REI, Ethan Allen(remember them?), California Pizza Kitchen and Brunswick Zone. The paper version always seems to have more articles than the online version.

BBTrips,
It wouldnt have surprised me if the spot that Panera had picked out was Gander Mt. I know they love corner spaces and I am thinking and that site has amble parking. They also could have been looking at Duluth Hill. But to me it seems like Gander Mountain may have been the space they were referring too being BWW backed out for a few months and then now is back in the building. Its almost like Welsh may have been working with Panera for those few months. Just a thought.
Its kind of funny that you mention Panera, I just emailed them last week with a lengthy email about Duluth and how we need a Panera Bread. I suggested the RI site for a location or Duluth Hill. I wonder if we would be getting one with in the next two years?
nateduluthnative,
When you say possible tenants, do you mean as in these tenants are being worked with at the moment on opening in the site next to RI. Or that CMRA would like to have Chipotle and/or Dunkin Donuts go into the restaurant parcel of the RI site? Was it both or just one that would be going in? Thanks!

The article said CMRS were talking with them. That's odd because usually restaurants that open at or adjacent to hotels are sit down , not fast food.

I agree that that is unusual. The problem is though that the site will only support 4,500 square feet of space and only has 47, far too less than required by many restaurants. But its a good site for places like Chipotle, Noodles and Company or Panera. They love these types of sites being they have many customers that will be staying at the hotel and eating at their eatery. Lets hope Chipotle is the one who decides to open at the site.

Wow, I just started reading this forum recently. I am really amazed how interested people seem to be in chain stores. It depends on the economic set-up, but generally these business provide a few low-paying jobs and funnel wealth out of the community.
