Yes, I know Toys R' Us closed in Duluth, I went to their closing sale (where they were selling shelving). I don't think Toys R' Us sucked though, I think it filled a need. They sold the mainstream toys that our locals spots don't sell.
I guess I've really been to another toy store though (never have heard of FAO Shwartz). I miss my KB Toys

FAO Schwartz is a extremely nice toy store. They have some toys that range into the upper $100,000 price range along with the normal priced toys. Although it would be extremely nice to have an FAO Schwartz in Duluth I dont think it would happen. I dont even think there is an FAO Schwartz in the Twin Cities, not counting Macy's selling their line.

Younkers sells a limited amount of FAO Swartz toys. I thought I read that FAO Swartz was closing stores because they are doing so poorly. I went to the one at the Grove in California and it was nice. I can't remember if this is one of the ones they are closing. People just are not buying from specialty toy stores anymore.

Unrelated to toy stores, but I just noticed (probably super late on this) a new sign for Subway right now to the new DQ Grill and Chill. It'll be nice to get more stuff built there, and get rid of the ugly, half-torn down Cinema 8.

Yes I have mentioned the Subway being built before but it doesnt hurt to mention it again and it actually was suppose to start in February but they didnt have the right systems yet hooked up for the building to be built. It will be roughly a little larger than DQ Grill and Chill and it should be open by summer. The old Cinema 8 theater was going to become a Dollar Theater and then that deal feel through. Joe Kleiman bought the site and is now trying to develop the site. The reason that half the building is left up is because that part of the building is still considered to be able to be used if needed. The site is trying to land a big box retailer or sit down restaurant. Where Cinema 8 is the site if a new building was to be built it can hold 25,000 on one level, the building can have two levels totaling the amount of possible square footage to 50,000 square feet. Crate and Barrel sounds good to me By the way was there a rendering of what the Subway will look like? I have the site plan being I am friends with Joe but no renderings. Also the Subway will be going behind DQ Grill and Chill, not to the side where currently only the old parking lot is. The Subway will possibly have a drive thru but I am not sure if that was finalized. Jones will be the owner of the Subway, he also owns all of the other Subways in Duluth and also the Papa Johns in Duluth.

I think FAO Schwartz closed their Mall of America store. They also own Zany Brainy.

nateduluthnative, Thats what I thought. I dont really think we need another when there is one in the mall just down the road. But they wouldnt build it if there wasnt a demand.

The way I see it, they're going for all of the Hermantown business. Hermantown doesn't have too many fast food/chain type eateries. I'm sure they'll do very well. The new DQ's parking lot is always very busy.
