I have to agree with Wood & Creek--Stillwater is not the same. The development along Hwy 36 has caused ALL of the local businesses to leave downtown. What has taken over downtown are antique shops, in every store. It was once a downtown where you could go buy clothes, pick up your medicine and have a quick bite to eat before the art gallery showing that evening. You could take your dollar the candy store and buy a couple candy bars. I also grew up in Stillwater and yes, downtown LOOKS nice but it isn't a place where the Stillwater residents hang out.

There shouldn't be any vacancies in downtown Stillwater.

Why? Because the franchise has focused on small town MN? It's probably their business plan. Jimmy's Pizza did the same thing. Now you see Jimmy's in some places that have larger populations.
I highly doubt that it has anything to do with the palate of small town vs. large town.

I am not saying that the palate of Duluthians is any different than others. What I am saying is that Duluth already has enough of these types of places and Duluthians have had restaurants like this one in the past and it didnt last as long. I dont know maybe it will do good. It just seems like Duluth has enough Pizza places for the moment.

Businesses I would love to see in Duluth:
- Trader Joe's
- Bruegger's Bagels
- Lifetime Fitness
- Whole Foods (the national chain)
- Jamba Juice
- a new YWCA and YMCA (in Winnipeg they joined the YMCA & YWCA into a state of the art fitness and athletic center downtown).
I know these are long shots but I can dream!

Well the YMCA is undergoing a major renovation with everything being moved around. It probably won't be as impressive as the Winnipeg one, but.. it's something!

I would like to see Trader Joes too. I loved going there when I lived in Seattle. It has good stuff. I like the Whole Foods Co-Op that we have here in town. I would hate to see a national chain come in and drive our little store out of business. The Co-Op does a lot (not all) business with local farmers and producers which adds real value to our local economy. I doubt a national store would use local farmers.

Also, just an update on the Texas Roadhouse and Culvers stuff. Turns out they won't start construction until Spring of 2009! Again, this stuff is 3rd hand, so honestly, who knows.
