Wondering if anyone has heard anything regarding a possible restaurant next to Bullyans? On the Maple Village Housing Development site, they list a restaurant as being part of the development, and have two outlots right along Highway 53. One is supposedly a childcare center, and one is a restaurant.

Contact

Dying to know what will go here, but haven't heard anything. I see they just poured the curb for those two outlots, though. I could easily see some kind of fast food there.

Also, I see there is a sign in front of Menards Hermantown for available outlot.

bbtrips I actually had forgot that Maple Ridge Development site and was dying to find it again! Thanks!

I really dont know anything about those two lots. I have not been paying that much attention to that development due to the fact it has been caught in some problems. But I do see that it is in full development now this year.

I really am curious to see what the day care will be. It would be great to see a daycare place such as New Horizons Daycare Acadamy open a location there. They are very popular in the cities and build very nice centers.

As far as the restaurant I could definantly also see a fast food reatiler there. But then again it seems like a place like Perkins or Dennys would also like to locate there. I know in the cities Perkins has been locating in the developments due to the fact that the development can support them alone. These developments in the cities are actually smaller than Maple Ridge and more in the country, so it would be great to see a Perkins or Dennys up there.

The Menards outlot really has me wondering. I know that there will be one outlot and actually maybe another. But the original plan was that the Little Store in front of Menards would be knocked down due to the fact that with the Miller Trunk Corridor redevelopment a frontage road was to built on their site. Then it was said that Little Store would build a new store in one of the two outlots. But now that the Little Stores automotive care center added a new addition to the building I dont think they are planning to relocate now. But as far as the outlot goes I definantly think for sure that it will be a fast food retailer. Any ideas? The only ones I could think of are Arbys and Burger King, unless Jimmy Johns wanted to do a free standing location.

Speaking of Hermantown has anyone heard anything on the proposed Walmart Supercenter and also the Members Cooperative Credit Union branch that is going to be built on Mall Drive next to Hom Furniture?

That would be awesome if a Denny's/Perkin's and/or New Horizons would go there! It could start to signal development being pushed out farther on 53! I do know that someone in the developer's family owns two day care centers in Duluth, though, so not sure if they would locate another in that location.

That's interesting about the frontage road outside of Menard's! I love frontage roads, and would think that would be a great fit up there if they did do it. I suppose we're all of a sudden going to see a bunch of new growth (seems to come in spurts - would be great to see a BIG spurt!).

Hey, I suppose you have all found it - but I noticed they have finally put up a website for Clyde Park. Clyde Park Duluth

I can't wait to see the marketplace - sounds like it will be similar to the one in Winnipeg.

Actually I had not heard of the Clyde Website. Huh sounds like an interesting thing. I am not sure at how well this development will do. I also was expecting a much more professional website. But at least there is a website.

What one in Winnipeg?

Yeah, the Clyde site should be really cool. Already they have the Heritage Sports Center, but the marketplace, brewery, children's museum, etc should be absolutely fantastic.

I just love this rendering of the inside of the marketplace, from Business North:

BusinessNorth Exclusives

Also, I see Business North has an article about a disagreement between Target and the Miller Trunk Highway plan:

Construction News

The marketplace is supposed to be really cool, from what I can tell. Here is what the article (first one) says about it:

Built in the oldest structure in the park, a timber-framed stable constructed for Clyde Iron Co. in 1898. The marketplace will include fresh produce, baked goods, smoked meats, candy, fresh flowers, a coffee shop and two eateries that will feature homemade tamales, ravioli, pizza and pasta.

It sounds very similar to a place called the "Forks" in Winnipeg (Forks Marketplace), but obviously smaller.

One article I read said that they were going to erect a really cool watertower, to use to advertise the site. Obviously it would be retro, to match the vintage look of the Clyde site.

Cool, huh? I really hope it does well, too. With all the hockey and now indoor football going on out there, I'm sure people will straggle over to the other stuff on the site.

I agree, they need a MUCH better website!

That Target article was very interesting. I myself am wondering why Target would care so much being they are trying to open a Super Target? Has anyone heard anything on the Walmart Supercenter in Hermantown? What about the Members Cooperative Branch that is suppose to be built next to Hom Furniture?

Subway looks like it is coming along well next to DQ Grill and Chill in Hermantown. All of the walls are up and boarded. It looks like it will be like the one in Kenwood and it will also feature a drive through window. Look for it to open next month.

Interesting news about a possible Walgreens location in Kenwood was in todays newspaper. I have been talking to the developer for Walgreens Minnesota locations for the past year. The location Walgreens is trying to locate on is on the corner of Arrowhead and Kenwood. It was orginally suppose to be for the DTCU but their plans fell through. We'll se what happens with the city's vote on whether or not Walgreens will be able to build on the designated land for allyways.

Ohhh, that corner! Good! I know the owners of Daddios (which by the way is closing) mentioned awhile ago that a bank was going in there. That lot has been for sale for ever, and I think a Kenwood Walgreens would do very well.

Yes the bank was DTCU. They released plans for the building including a site plan and renderings about four years ago and it was extremely nice. But I guess Walgreens has been looking for a Kenwood location for around two to three years now. I am very excited. I do hope the city lets it go through. This would be a great investment for the Kenwood neighborhood. If the city doesnt let Walgreens have the alley ways I dont think they will locate in Kenwood due to there being no other corner to locate on.

Daddios is closing? Orignally it was said that Arbys and the Holiday station along with Daddios was all going to be bought by Walgreens and that they were to build a store on that land. I head that from one of the workers at Auto Ace.

Did anyone know that Sonic Drive Ins are now in Minnesota? There is one open in St. Paul and two others opening this summer in Elk River and Savage. Interesting to me, now the commericals I see I can actually go to the place and try to food! I hope they locate one in Duluth.

Yeah, Daddios found a buyer a few months ago, but a few days before it would have gone through, the prospective buyer died. It was such a hit to Daddios. Now they've hopefully finally found another buyer. The only thing keeping them alive is the ISD709 pizza contract. The Kenwood location offered them significantly more business than the Central Entrance location, but it still was just not enough.
