I just got an email from from the Executive Director at the DECC, and it sounds like they'll be breaking ground on the parking ramp expansion in September and the new arena in March. According to him, all is still on track. I'm surprised that they'll be starting so late, not afraid of winter I guess?

Ha thats what I thought too. Why not take advantage of summer? Are they expanding the parking ramp up or out? I wonder if there are any other renderings of the inside or outside of the new arena.

I don't live in Duluth, but I was born and raised there and still visit quite often. I like to keep up on business news in the area. I do believe that this blog should keep to Duluth's retail and restaurant news and Rochester's issues to another thread, although I do find both cities very interesting. Minnesota is not only Caribou territory but also Dunn Bros. territory, they are both based here. I would love to see a couple more Dunn Bros. in the Twin Ports area. My dad works at Bullyan's and I ask him about the former r.v. place all the time and it's still for sale. I e mailed the developer of the housing development in Hermantown, and he said that the restaurant site is still for sale.

Yea well we really didnt mean to get into Rochester's news there was just a little miss understanding.

Yes I guess it is both territories but its seems like Caribou is Minnesota's Starbucks. It seems like there is atleast one Caribou in every city in Minnesota. But I have seen Dunn Brothers starting to open a large amount of new stores. I would really appreciate a Dunn Brothers up by Miller Hill Mall. It seems weird to me that they opened their first Duluth location out on London Road, but I guess there are a large amount of people out there and lots of traffic.

Thanks for the Bullyan site info. It'd be nice to see something go there. We drive by there most times we are up north and it looks so old now. Not sure what I'd vote for there but something is better than nothing.

The site just seems so far away... be in reality its not far at all. Plus they are building a retail and office building a block up the road from the Bullyan Site. It looks like it is going to very nice. But I guess business's are willing to locate up there, I mean the entire Hermantown Centre building is filled to capacity. I would like to see like an Aldi or a retail strip center go there. With the Maple Ridge development right there and all the commuters going by each day I think a Grocery store would do well there.

Yeah I just posted that in the Miller Hill Mall thread but I am happy to tell you. 2009 is when the are coming. It will probably be in the spring of 2009.

And on the topic of Starbucks, the Duluth Target will be getting one early 2009 when it gets remodeled.
