I just drove by the hermantown quiznos and saw that it indeed was closed. I am not sure if it was due to slow sales or if anytime fitness made them an offer they could not refuse because anytime has a big banner up saying they are expanding so it looks like they will be taking their spot. There was no mention on the door of quiznos if they will open up elsewhere so I assume they will not. I am sad about that, they were the only one over the hill. I wish they would open one in the mall in the empty burger king space....does anyone know what is going in there? it has been empty for quite some time.

I was just in the 27th West Quizno's and they had a note saying the Hermantown Quizno's closed due to the expansion of Anytime Fitness. Does not sound like they were not making a profit as each time I was in the Hermantown Quizno's it was busy, or more busy than any of the other ones in the area.

That's what I assumed. There's a sign on the Anytime Fitness/Quiznos building that says the same.

Hmm.... I did not know that was the reason for their closing. I wonder if they will relocate farther down Miller Trunk in the mall area somewhere.... such as next to Caribou Coffee? I really think the owners would try to reopen being the store did extremely well when Menards was open. Hey maybe Hermantown will be one of only a few cities who get a free standing Quiznos! ACTUALLY! Maybe Quiznos will locate where Super Suppers was! That space is perfect and it is only a block earlier than their old store! This wouldn't surprise me if they opened there!

Not really a new store, but I noticed that Boulder Ridge Apartments looks to be expanding yet again with a fifth complex farther back on their property. That's really going to be quite the development there when they're done.

Are you talking about the new building being built closer to Rice Lake Road? Thats called Summit Ridge and its another building that is for the general public for apartments and also for professors and teachers. Or is Boulder Ridge building another building behind the four they have built already?

The store going in the former Michaels space is Savers. It's a thrift store chain, a sort of low end TJ Maxx but nicer than the usual thrift stores. There are several of them in the Twin Cities and one not far from me is beside a K Mart store. I was hoping for something better, but anything is better than a vacant space. I still hope that K Mart will close and that whole area be redeveloped soon.

It's great that Savers is coming to Duluth. It's way better than Goodwill. Much nicer stuff - at least here. Ours also has 50% off sales I believe 3 times a year - President's Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day. Ours is always busy too.

Savers? Hmm. Thats really interesting. I really do hope to that someone buys that whole plot of land and redevelops it all. It really needs to be torn down and re built.

CULVERS IS FOR SURE COMING TO DULUTH!!! Culvers will begin construction on their new Duluth location this spring. The location will be on Trinity road. Where you ask? Well the mall currently owns this parcel of land. It is sandwiched between the DTCU and the North Star Ford overflow parking lot for their cars. This land was just put on the market a few months ago. Culvers will open sometime this summer if the weather cooperates!
