Would the building be rebuilt or put in the original building? I really have no idea what it is! If I find out I will let you know!

Great question - I can't believe she didn't ask all the good questions
To her, it sounded like it was going to be a 'good restaurant' and that it was going to take the place of two properties (i.e. torn down). I asked her if it sounded like a fast food restaurant, and she said that it didn't sound like it. It sounded like a 'better/fancier restaurant', but they didn't say a name.
Hope it's not a false alarm, but those hairdressers get all the good info!

Fancier restaurant?! CHEESECAKE FACTORY! Just kidding! I am really not sure what this could be... would it be a place like Benihana or T.G.I Fridays? Benihana is nicer but that would be a weird location. Who knows if it is even national.

They still have the option to build of course. I think they are holding off on any new construction aside form their call center. Since they changed leadership at the top, there have been massive amounts of turnover in upper management. Morale is low.

Oh man, can you even imagine! Yeah, for the price of that property, and the one next to it, you would think it would be something good. That is, if the gossip at the hairdressers was correct

CMRA has now listed 4.41 acres of commerical land for sale on Maple Grove Road... but not the major retail section of Maple Grove Road. The part that lies filled with houses right now. The site is hard to describe its exact location so follow the link here and there is a picture of where the site is. http://cmrasells.com/PDFfiles/1611-3...GroveFlyer.pdf
I really am curious to see what in the world would locate on this site. Its a great site! Its highly perched on a hill... but is currently hidden and the road it is currently on is a residential road thats access by Mexican Maya is being cut off this year. But the other thing that interests me is that the entire area in front of this site also is for sale.... maybe what should happen is the Firestone intersection should be made a four way intersection with a road leading up to Maple Grove Road... then that area could become solid retail... Anyone else have any thoughts?

Interesting, nice find. I guess I don't know what you mean by "cut off". The only thing being removed is the terrible intersection between Maple Grove and Hwy 53 at the Maya. I still see that portion of Maple Grove being very useful for commercial purposes since it is still easily accessible from the cut across by Walgreens, and again by Starbucks. Plus the new path of Maple Grove takes it just in front of the Kohls parking lot and to Hwy 53 there, making another easy access point.

Yes the place where I am talking about the cut off is that Miller Trunk Highway and Maple Grove Road intersection. But what the problem is with the site is that when someone is driving up Miller Trunk Highway they will see the site with its buildings but they will already have passed their first entrance to get to the site, the Cottonwood and Miller Trunk Highway intersection. When they get to the Maple Grove and Miller Trunk Highway intersection they would usually be able to turn onto Maple Grove road and get to the site, but with that entry to Maple Grove road being closed off the driver now will have to keep driving. When they get to the new Maple Grove and Miller Trunk Highway intersection they will see Kohls and a road off to their right... the problem is is that road does not look like it leads to the site. But in reality most Duluthians will know how to get to this site if it is bought and there will not be any issues. But if you were a tourist I could see their being some trouble getting to the site. Plus if someone builds on the site for sale directly next to Miller Trunk Highway on the hill it will block this new site from being visible. But you never know... maybe this upper part of Maple Grove road will become a new retail sector and it really wont matter how much visibility you have. Plus if they put Joshua all the way through in 2011 this road might get a large amount of traffic being it would lead directly up to Kohls. Any thoughts?

Not that it is any of my business.... That whole area is too congested and the City re-doing Maple Grove Road by target is a disaster. And.... I don't live there anymore. Forget that Miller Hill Mall - it should be torn down. Move out further and get a new mall if they don't do my suggestion at Cental High School site. I'd actually put a mall by Spirit Mountain too. Remember their original thought of a mall downtown going over the freeway - that was a great idea!!! Think of the possibilities. I want that area to flurish - I have a lake home on Chublake that we need to sell and I want stuff to move in. By the way, has anybody heard anymore about Cabella's on 35W and 33? I know that they approved the site for it. That's key for me. We live in Alabama and we just want to sell that lake home. If anybody hears anything about Cabellas in Cloquet..... please let me know.

I disagree wholeheartedly (but respectfully ) I feel that the Hwy 53/Central Entrance project is going to do wonders for the whole mall area. Of course it's congested, and probably will always be busy, but the fact that Maple Grove is being expanded to 4 drivable lanes and a center turn lane is going to be extremely helpful in and of itself. Take into account the additional development that will be happening soon (Residence Inn, Texas Roadhouse and Culvers) and the entire corridor is going to be looking good.
