This is what I was asking about when I asked if anybody had heard anymore about it a few days ago. Here is the deal as I know it. John Fedo who worked with Cloquet and Cabellas to get this land at that intersection in Cloquet. Cloquet got whatever housekeeping duties they needed to do to get it all approved and that happened last fall. Now, I heard about it from our children who live in Cloquet and Esko, so it peeked my interest because we want to sell our lake home as we now live in Alabama. I was totally excited. As for the Target part... that has been said for a couple of years now that they wanted to come to town. I think the Cabellas and Lowes thing pretty much dictated what Target plans. I actually have this obscure website that had talked about it, but it appears that they are keeping it below the radar until Spring. That is why I suggested that perhaps Duluth might want to build up the Central High School site with a mall or build a new one near Spirit Mountain to stay in the market with higher end retail shops. Things are moving out that way, not up the shore. Hermantown was growing when we moved - don't have a clue what's happening now. The City seems to feel that if it can't happen in Canal Park then it shouldn't be done. That's dumb. Plus, I still think Miller Hill area is too congested. Fine with the Residence Inn and Culvers, but there is no expansion there and no option for traffic pattern changes. It's a mess. I know you will all flip out when I say this one, but I will. The first, say 1 mile, of Park Point should be developed with very nice hotels/resorts/retail/restaurants. It's all about views these days. Marinas on the bay side and the hotels, etc. on the lake side. Water taxies to the the arena would be great in the bay for convention goers. When we come up there, we stay at Canal Park Lodge and it's awesome. Now about a Hyatt Place in Duluth? There is so much opportunity in Duluth. Elections matter.

Well it is certainly exciting that this is all happening. This is what I have been waiting for. As far as it goes for the Miller Hill Area I think the problem is is that they ran out of room. There is no room to build any big retail centers. So that is where redeveloping the Central would do a lot for the area like you said. I think Park Point would be great to Hotels, resorts and restaurants but what the problem is that the physical island is not wide enough to build that type of stuff. Whats happening now is that people who can afford it are buying three houses, tearing them down and building one big mansion. Thats what Park Point is going to turn into, all mansions and maybe a hotel or two. Hopefully we can get some resorts and retail down there too. I like your idea very much so. But Duluth really hopefully will learn from these two projects. Cloquet is going to develop so much now with this develop with this huge development. Duluth will notice people are start going to move farther south of us. But maybe this is a good thing. Maybe it will start to unite both areas. Hopefully Duluth will start trying to get businesses here and accept them like Cloquet has. So then Super Target is for sure? Also was there any word on Kohls or Dicks Sporting Goods? I think that they site might also be getting a Ruby Tuesday and a T.G.I Fridays by the looks of some of the plans. Now the restaurants are just guesses. Nothing for sure. But with the larger big box stores I mentioned I am almost certain they are true.

Also looking more into Superior Crossings they have 9 pad sites for sale, and 103,500 square feet of retail space. Which means all of the major big box spaces are already sold. And also some of the middle spaces are too. And on the Hermantown Center they show that there is 74,000 square feet available... meaning the major big box (Walmart Supercenter) has already been leased.

Looking at the Cabela's website, they have strict requirements to meet like 1 million people within 30 mile radious. Well, obviously NE Minnesota does not meet that requirement. HJowever, the amount of traffic may justify building. I can't find anything solid on this and it has all been rumor thus far.

Cabelas is a for sure. Thats not a question anymore. Cabelas has been looking in the area for seven years and now they found a spot. Duluth makes an exception due to the amount of Tourists and the amount of people that come to the area from other parts of the state.

Well a friend of mine that works at walmart says he heard about a new super walmart was being built but didn't know where. He said he heard they would start on it in march. Exciting, but i'll believe it when I see it. The super walmart has been back and forth for many years now with nothing being done so I really can't believe anything until I see it

Wow thats very reassuring for me to hear that someone at least heard they were building a new Walmart Supercenter. March would make complete sense for a late spring/early summer opening just like the site says is planned. It is in kind of a weird area being its so far up there. The population with in 1 mile is 786 people, five miles is 1500 and fifteen is 101,000... thats a big difference. This is going to do a lot for the area. This is for sure happening though. I am very interested in seeing what three other big box tenants they land for the site. I could really see this kick starting a retail development boom in that area.

Unbelievable finds, Duluthian!

Wow, this is going to be amazing, and to top it all off, the Super Walmart would be taking over a formerly polluted site. Nobody can complain about that Oh, that's right - I guess they could

Anyway, that's awesome because my co-worker JUST told me a few days ago that his wife was in Wal-Mart and one of the workers told her that they are going to get a Super WalMart! Timing is perfect...

Bring it on!!!!!

This is so interesting that all of these hearings of the Walmart Supercenter have just been happening in the past week. Well it almost seems better that it is going in this site because we will get three new stores with it. Plus we get the new Walmart SuperCenter prototype which is much more architecturally alluring then the original one we would have got! This is awesome!

Our daughter told us tonight that she heard that Applebees in Cloquet was now going to be an IHOP. Applebees nationwide is having trouble. Sad too, because they used to be good. If it is true that Ruby Tuesday is thinking about the Cabela's site that would be too bad. We have them here and they are not that good and they are expensive as far as I am concerned. Now, I could see a Culvers going over there and perhaps Sammy's was moving from up by Gordy's Hi-Hat to that area with a bigger building to replicate the Duluth west end site. That area is also lacking a steakhouse. You are right about the population things, but just remember..... build it and they will come. The prison in Moose Lake is expanding big time and relocating people from Rochester and the metro. And then there is the need for people to meet the employment needs of the Cabellas, Lowes, etc. This is exciting for me in that we may be able to sell our lake home there. It's too cold for me to ever move back. I prefer the Gulf of Mexico to Lake Superior these days (if they only had a Sammy's Pizza and Chopsticks...) I'm excited for you guys and it's fun to read this site. I love it.
