I have not heard of that project at all. It is a pretty good location off the interstate the only problem is there is no exit. You have to drive a ways and exit and then go back to it. Where did you hear of the project in the first place? I have never seen anything about it. Anyone hear any new stuff about the Chalet Motel where a new restaurant is going. Lets hope we can get some of the developments rolling to spur Duluth back to its glory days of days gone by.

The Garfield Avenue project was announced in the Duluth News Tribune a few years ago along with the Garfield Business Park, the large concrete building that seems to have no tenants. They actually are planning to build for more buildings that will house offices and warehouses behind that building. All I know is that Sherman Associates, the company developing the office park, wants to do some type of retail development in front of the office park. This would include either a Super Target or a Walmart Supercenter. They would add an exit and entrance ramp just for the development that would connect to the interstate. I think the development is suppose to be around 400,000 square feet of retail. But the rail lines need to be gone before anything can happen, that is why it is taking so long.

My wife and I went to the new Black Waters restaurant tonight and it was amazing. It's so nice to see another great space remodeled and done so nicely right downtown. It kinda has a 60's feel with a modern twist. Very good food. We had the Fondu for two and it was very good! Just thought I would let everyone know!

Found this bid was put in a month ago for Duluth, I wonder what it is for.

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the renovation of approximately 1,350 sq. ft. of lobby area to accommodate a new coffee shop area serving tenants and the public. The coffee shop design will incorporate historic design features and finishes consistent with Phase I. The remaining project scope replaces the existing deteriorated bronze exterior entrance doors with new doors replicating the original design, as well as restoration of three (3) arched windows along the lobby's west wall at the south end.

Have you looked at Superior Crossings site yet? Also due to the Summer 2010 opening planned, and that being a year and a half away, that might be the reason for limited amount of information. The development I am more scared about is the Hermantown retail development, thats suppose to be opening this summer and I have not heard a single thing on it nor I have I seen anything happening at the site!
Here is the link for Superior Crossings if you have not already looked at the site.

Dont be too worried about Superior Crossings, they just put it on their site a little over a month ago.

Wow...thanks Duluthian2008. I had been to the recor web site a number of times...but probably not for a couple months. I guess things are happening.
Thanks again for the update :-) I was really getting frustrated at the lack of information available.

On the Superior Crossing development site it says "Opening Spring/Summer 2010." Does that mean they will start cutting trees down starting then or are thay going to open the first store then or what? Does anybody know? Same with the Hermantown one as well. I also cant believe the site next to Sams Club has not been purchased yet. That seems to be a prime location. The sign across the street from that site has been there for a while now advertising that retail development but nothing has happened.

When it says "Opening Spring/Summer 2010" that is when the first store of the development will open. This most likely would be Super Target, Cabelas, Kohls or Lowes (That is if my guesses on which tenants will be going into white spaces are correct). This would mean that they would begin cutting down trees this Spring/Summer. On the Hermantown Center development the same thing goes. But being they have not started on it, it may be a later opening. But we also have to realize that they dont have to cut down any trees and that the site is already flat. But the opening date could be pushed to a later date due to Walmart Supercenter not locating in their development.
I really am shocked that the site next to Sam's Club has not sold. Its a large site that could hold a lot of retail. It probably will sell with in the next couple of years due to an intersection being created with a stop light and also a road being put in right were the site meets Sams Club. This really sells land and makes a developer want to build ther. I know next to Slumberland that there are also putting a new entrance, that will connect three spaces. This would be the retail development strip center that has not started, Slumberland and also Stauber Brothers, that is if they decide to build a new location there. It really frustrates me that they have not started on that retail strip center, it also has the same name as the Re-Cor Hermantown development. I am not sure why there has been such a delay, and I have emailed Johnson Wilson countless times on it but have recieved no reply. But to me it seems that if they have not taken down the sign that the development is still a go. They are probably just trying to line up tenants.

Just signed the petition - thanks for the reminder!
In other news - do you know the old "Charter" space across from the Sheraton downtown? Well, one of the neighbors just told me that Hooters has checked out that space! That would be a HUGE deal for downtown if we got something like that in Old Downtown. What do you think?
