Glad to hear someone is on my side! Thats makes me wanting to now be on the city council just so I can get this type of stuff passed. It was funny how the piece I read had some quotes from people and person was stating that this development should not go through people there are other places that are open for retail development... such as 3 acres of Duluth Hill (Texas Roadhouse took four already) the mall outlot (Taken by Culvers) the land behind Stone Ridge Shopping center (the land could not hold any big box companies like this new development could. This person basically didnt know what they were talking about. Grant it those pieces were for sale and some spaces are still, an acre will not be enough room for 145,000 square feet of retail. There is no other place in Duluth Heights were there is enough room for that much retail except for this site.

Everybody needs to e-mail the Duluth city council and let them know this needs to pass for new development and for jobs. The Duluth page is duluthmn.gov.

Everyone remember back when there was a land zone change request for the site on Myrtle Street from R1 Residential to C5 Commercial? Well I was looking at some planning commission notes and saw that the people that were asking for the zoning change were the people who own the DQ on Central Entrance... Makes me wonder what they were planning on doing with the zoning change...

Hi you guys.... 2008 I have told you before - run for office. Here is what you guys need to go. Get rid of Oberstar first - he is running Duluth - believe me. If you want development by Kohl's then you need to get A & L involved. I can't tell you why I know that, but I know of what I speak. I can't go further than that. There are only a few movers and shakers in Duluth that have clout. Look into who is at A & L. Hmmmm. Grass roots will change that City - get your message out and people will love it. You guys are inventive - put newletters out, start blogs up there (besides this one... I had to search to find it). Send your message out in faxes to restaurants to put on their tables at lunch with your "points". It will catch on and then you move in and get the seats to make the decisions. Right now, environmentalists are threatening the people in power that they will defeat them unless they go along with their mindset. As long as that is happening, you are going nowhere. Do your homework and defeat them. I would come up there and help, but.... I am enjoying the deep south where there are values and lots of jobs and the weather is great. I spent 50 years up there and I didn't do it...... it's up to you guys. Good luck, you can do it. You have passion.

I was just on the Miller Trunk Corridor Wikipedia page and it lists Texas Roadhouse late summer 2009 on the chain restaurant list!

New construction of a national chain hotel in Duluth. Working plans call for the construction of an extended-stay hotel.
Site work has been completed, but building construction is on hold due to the weather. No inquiries are being accepted at this time.

Found that out and was confused when I saw that it said that Residence Inn was suppose to begin in April. But the site this bid is from says construction is suppose to start in June! Lets cross our fingers for April still!

Haven't heard anything new - and it's still there. Apparently, they were having some problems buying an adjacent property, so that may take a while. Will let you know if I hear anything new!

In the DNT today there was a nice article about needing more retail in the Miller Hill Area. The suggestions were building some lifestyle center types of buildings along the roads. The article also talked about how there are perfect spaces in that area right now for Panera Bread, I thought that was interesting. It also said that the area needs a store like REI, Orvis or Lands End.

That was such a great article to read! I didn't even know they were doing this study. It makes me excited that some big changes could be coming to Miller Hill. It's interesting that some actual brands were mentioned. Bring it on! This is THE major regional retail center. It should start with a Super Target
