I did a little googling and it's likely a new restaurant being started by Yasuko Holt who owns the Zen House at the ico station by Sam's Club. They specialize in Sushi so if it's more of the same i'm not interested

In the future, Holt would like to expand her business with a Canal Park location. She’s also interested in attracting college students with Japanese game shows, big screen TVs and plenty of rice wine. And karaoke? “Karaoke would be nice,” Holt laughs.

Cmon get serious if you think this is the reason Duluth isn't growing you need to get out more. The reason it's not growing is due to the fact these kind of jobs (like the const. on the hotel) are manned by out of state labor that doesn't pay very well. Now if it was manned locally with good paying jobs that means more money stays in the local economy creating jobs with good pay. Pretty easy economics.

Did I say that was the only reason why Duluth was not growing? No. I was merely adding that to the plenty of other things that add to Duluth's lack of growth. I know enough about economics to know that picketing is not the only reason a city wouldnt grow. But add picketting to a project in Duluth and the project will slow down enormously. Any slow down in any project in Duluth just does not say much for the city and does not attract other retailers. It makes Duluth more undesirable as a location for retailers if they know that they are going to have to go through an already extremely hard process of getting zoning and permits taken care of and then on top of it have to battle picketting.

That "Greendale" development is the most exciting thing planned for the Hill at this time. Has it been approved by both the council and planning departments? Will it be architecturally appealing? What stores are planning to locate there? When will construction start? The company developing it does not have a website and I hope that businesses new to the area locate there. There is also a sign on the corner of Arrowhead and Haines that says "coming soon: Arrowhead Crossing". Does anyone have any info. on this development?

Greendale has been approved by both the City Council and Planning Comission. It will be a 250,000 square feet retail development that will feature big box retailers. It most likely will be a Green certified development too. At the current moment there is no more information on Greendale. They are expected to release some information in the coming months such as designs, specifics and possible retailers.
Arrowhead Crossing is a mix-use business park being development by Holappa. There are a good amount of lots for sale for light industrial/office and also two parcels for sale that are meant for retail. Click the link below to find out more information on Arrowhead Crossing.

This is not Duluth related... but has anyone heard about this Pinnacle Village Outlets development in Bemidji? Talk about a development that slipped right passed me! This is a huge development! They are going to have 400,000 square feet of retail and they are actually building it now! The first phase is a strip center and what looks like a Costco due to the site plan. But that major 170,000 anchor building which I think is Costco has not been announced. So we dont know what that is yet. But they have signed on the following tenants for the retail building.
Samsonite
Lane Bryant
Eddie Bauer
Dress Barn
Maurices
Bass Formelwear
Danny Cohran
Geoffry Beene
IZOD
Hanes
Gold Toe
Claires
Vitamin World
The Childrens Place
Rue 21
Kay Jewlery
ONEIDA
Bath and Body Works
Chicos
IS THAT ANY AMAZING TENANT LIST? That is very impressive to me for being a northern Minnesota development. Shocks me how Bemidji is getting stores Duluth doesnt even have. That says a lot about Duluth. Just wanted to let everyone know.
Here is the link to the developments website.

It'd be interesting if a Costco did go in there because they say they only go to cities with populations over 200,000. Perhaps that qualification has changed.

Well the site plan they have for their major big box retailer is the site plan of a Costco. And they have leased it. I would think it would be weird if Costco opened up there due to what you said. Plus I believe there is only one in Minnesota in Maple Grove. But who knows! Weird things are happening with the retail scene in the North!

Well, this is good news. According to the DNT, Duluth will have a new Texas Roadhouse. It will be built near Home Depot and the only other Texas Road house in Minnesota is in Coon Rapids. The developrs thought Duluth would be a "good fit". Too bad more developers don't think the same thing.

Wow its about time they announce this! Glad to see that they say the project will begin in a few weeks. But didnt our insider say they wont start till August? Many people, from reading the comments on the story, think that Texas Roadhouse is going where Residence Inn is being built and none of them realize that it is across from Home Depot. Not next to Midas.
