I think the reason we get excited about Dressbarn is due to the fact that its another business coming to Duluth. I know that I myself will not shop at DressBarn. BUT I am excited for Dressbarn to come to Duluth because its an additional retailer coming to Duluth. Duluth is doing amazingly well right now in this economy. There is so much construction going on in the Miller Hill area and new projects are being announced all the time. We have barely felt the effects of the recession. Our housing market has no plummeted. So I think we are doing pretty well right now. Duluth is excited to have you back and I hope you enjoy your time up here. As fas as Obama goes, I believe he is doing a wonderful job running our country. Oberstar could be a little better, but hey, Duluth is benifitting a lot from his decisions and it seems like we tend to get a lot of projects in Duluth because of him. His projects stimulate the areas growth...

I have to strongly disagree with you on politics, but that is for another thread, but do you know where the Dress Barn is going? They usually go in strip malls and the only place on the hill that has a lot of vacancies at this time is Burning Tree Plaza. Maybe even that space in Village Square where the dollar store was. Another restaurant that could open in Duluth soon-Granite City. Stanius Johnson Architects does their interiors and that's a Duluth based firm. Also do you know of a blog on the "Area Voices" about new business and construction in Duluth? It's domain name is also "dulutian2008"!

We all have our opinions on politics But you are very right, that is another thread! I have no idea where Dressbarn is going. I do not think it is in the mall though and I agree with you saying they go in strip centers. I could see them for sure going in Burning Tree or even taking part of Gander Mountain. Hopefully we will find out soon! I know Granite City is a Minnesota company and they are interested in Duluth. I have talked to them about Duluth before, although they dont know how long until they will be here. Yes I do know there is that blog...

Well! Target is doing so major work! If you havent been there lately, I would not try to go for atleast a week or two. Target cut its parking lot by 2/3's so they could tear it all up and rebuild it. They are redoing the ENTIRE parking lot with new landscaping also. They are adding the new signature red balls to the front entrances of the stores. They have put a fence down the middle of the parking lot from the side exit all the way down to the road. This means there is only a third or a little more than half their parking left. Let me just say that this has created a nightmare. I went to Target at 12:00 today and could not find a single parking space. There is no room to park anywhere! People were parking on the road! I am not sure how well this is going to go over with their shoppers. But I take it Target is going to try to get it done as soon as possible! The end result will be great!

Duluth 2008, you know that I like and respect you (except for your comment that Obama is doing a good job - are you nuts? I had such political hopes for you).

Target putting money into digging up their parking lot for landscaping? Probably greening it up for Miller Creek or something. You guys are doomed with libs.

We have our plans firm for our trip to MN on Thursday. Fly into MSP, rent a car. Off to Zantigo (nummmy), chips and cheese and cheese chilitos. On to Duluth and stop at Sammy's to get a huge sausage and mushroom pizza. Check into Canal Park Lodge with a gorgeous view of Lake Superior. Call Chop Sticks and have dinner delivered. I will spare you the details of the rest of our stay in Duluth (serious wonderful local food involved), BUT back to MSP on Sunday with a stop at Matt's Bar in Minneapolis. You guys check it out on the travel channel website, Man versus Food. People from all over now go there.

Now, you can see what Duluth needs - stuff like Matt's Bar. Not Dress Barn for God's sake.

Target is doing work on their lot because MNDOT ripped up half their parking lot for the Miller Trunk Highway reconstruction. They then sued MNDOT for taking a large amount of their parking spaces, almost 75. In return MNDOT was forced to fund part of Targets new landscaping and parking lot reconstruction. Thats why they get to do it! Its going to be great! I am excited because the parking lot is going to be situated a lot better now.

Krenzen found out today that their Cadillac franchise will not be renewed by GM. GM states that they will only sell the car in large metropolitan areas now. Not good news for Duluth being a TON of Duluthians drive Cadillacs. Duluth doesnt seem to be doing too well with it's car delearships right now. Losing Jeep, Chrysler, Cadillac and now also Saturn, which GM plans to discontinue by 2011. Meaning the BRAND NEW Saturn Dealership will close..

My word! Talk about assumptions. Duluthian2008 is right on the money, the Target landscaping is in direct correlation with the Maple Grove Rd construction. Even if it wasn't, I'm having a hard time finding a point of view that would be against a private business investing in their parking lot and landscaping. Even IF the work was being done from a purely environmental standpoint, it's still work that will make Target's parking lot look nicer and would be making much needed aesthetic improvements. Is that wrong?

Saturn is a brand that could be sold off like Hummer just was-so the jury is still out on that one.

Aluminumpork, I too agree with you. I dont see anything wrong with Target investing in their own land. Plus its not all of their money, its part of MNDOT's too. That area will look so nice when there are brand new roads, new parking lots and new landscaping along with a new and updated Target pole sign.

Newcastle, you are very right on your comment! Hopefully they will be sold off because it would be very sad to see that brand discountinued. It seems a lot of people drive Saturns.
