Default may be moving to Duluth,MN

Hello everyone I am a 22 year old recent grad of Excelsior nursing program(also a paramedic) and am considering moving to Duluth,MN next summer. My concerns are that may be there is not many jobs for new nurses or for a paramedic, and is the region Transsexual friendly (I’m very passable by the way.) something else I was wondering is 1.) what is the cost of living like in the area, 2.)average cost of a house, 3.) crime rate?

Nursing is a growing industry in the region. I do not think you will have trouble finding a nursing job. Most people think the cost of living in Duluth is less than Minneapolis, but I do not think it really is for basics such as food, gas, clothing, etc. Housing is cheaper. Average cost for a house is about $150,000.

Petty crime is fairly common. Duluth has recently had two high profile shootings and a stabbing, but overall the crime rate is not too bad. There are those that think the area is flooded with Chicago and Milwaukee gang bangers and welfare seekers. Not the crisis it is made out to be. Check out www.crimemapping.com and look at Duluth. Lots of disturbing the peace which is mostly college parties.

As far as transgender, Duluth is a pretty liberal town with a GLBT community that is active. I have no idea how accepting your potential employers may be, but I guess it is really no ones business anyhow.
