Fall Leaves - Duluth?
Hi All,
We are considering a drive up to Duluth (from Apple Valley) to see the fall colors etc etc...when is the best time to go? Around now? Or have we missed it for this year? Just wondering where the best place is to go really to see all these leaves etc - having never visited before and being new to Minnesota!!! Thank you in advance!

My folks in law were up there 2 weekends ago. They said it was just a few trees changing. I would bet that you would want to wait another week. Also the DNR website: Fall color reports: Minnesota DNR updates on thursdays I think. Welcome to MN !

Just went for a bike ride today (around Hermantown), and the leaves are definitely into the process of changing now. I don't think we've reached peak yet here over the hill, however. Below the hill (in Downtown Duluth and other areas near the lake), the leaves actually change a bit later, and are probably still more or less green. I would say next weekend would be a good time.

I was just at Jay Cooke yesterday but nope, not quite yet. Some Maple and isolated groves of Sumac, but I'd say 10% so far.

Fall colors from the trees are a nice seasonal attraction, i used to drive all over Mich to take in that unique spectacle, hopefully i still can get in on the fall colors in MINNESOTA by the time my move to DULUTH this season is complete to see them myself.
I'm even really more encouraged to finally will be at a latitude where the Northern Lights will be a real possibility and hopefully frequent natural attraction too. BreathTaking to say the least.

And when will that be?
Leaves are typically gone by about October 20th above the hill, maybe a little past halloween below.
