Default Awesome Weather...

....Yeah right.

How does it get to 85 in the Twin Cities but stays at 50 in Duluth?

Answer: Duluth is an embarassing city. I have lived here for 8 months and I am repulsed by the climate here. The only way this city is going to grow and expand is new business and new residents. It's hard to get new residents or businesses to come to a city that has such horrible weather.

Can some Duluthians shed some light? Does it get better? I heard the generic, expected "Yep, its colder than the Cities".... but I want some real answers. How is there only a high of 38 expected next week? It has to be some kind of record?

The big lake to your east causes the temperature difference, the town has nothing to do with that. Drive a mile away from the lake and it will be warmer.

Duluth does indeed have a horrible climate. The summers don't even get warm enough anymore. I remember when I was a little kid, there used to be so many more hot days during the summer. It's that lake that just sucks for weather. I think it's East and North winds are the worst winds. South and Southwest winds are the warmest here.

Yeah, it got not too bad in Hermantown, where I work. But that wind was just...too cold.

But no, I'm sure a 38 next week wouldn't be a record. We are a cold city. That'll never change, at least, while we're alive.

Suggestion for the OP. Toughen up. Duluth has a hell of a lot to offer anyone who appreciates the outdoors and nature and the community probably doesn't need someone who is only going to whine about the weather.

On the positive side, you got the comparison in the other thread between women in MN and women on the West Coast right.

I've never lived in Duluth, but I used to visit annually every January. I can't say that I enjoyed trudging through the January cold, but there's more to a city than just its weather. Its setting on the hill is pretty amazing, and people in Duluth are lucky to be able to watch big ships coming and going.

Cooler temperatures in the summer are a good thing for some of us. There are very few "perfect" cities, and you either deal with what you have or evaluate what your priorities are (weather, etc.) and try to find something that matches up better. Or save your money and go on some nice tropical vacations.
